Can someone explain why E-Starter foam doesn't have dimples?

As I'm sure we all know, the GWS Zero slope glider white foam is full of dimples. I assume other warbirds have the same thing. But when I opened my E-Starter today, i noticed the foam was smooth. Why is that?

That's new version one, it would be the same on GWS-38 and
Me-262.

Okay, good to know. Does that mean that all future GWS planes (including Zero, etc.) will have smooth foam?

Hopefully, my colleagues could improve them all.

D'oh! I only bought the unpainted slope flyer Zero because I wanted to sand off the dimples. Had a dimple-free painted version been available, I would've gotten that instead.

Hi metalbuggy,

They've been much better than Pico Birds and Zero. My colleagues have tried to eliminate all dimples, but the mould need some holes to let air go out when moulding foams. These holes would cause some dimples on the foam.

Hmmm, yours must be old school

None of mine have them, I have 3 NIB of each you just listed and I'm sure of it. So the legends must be true, the newer ones don't.

I just purchased an Me-109 last night in the new packaging. It has dimples on the foam. But I guess it depends on your definition of "dimples". These are no where near as bad as the mold marks on my Zero, but there are tiny foam protrusions that can be easily sanded off.

If we are talking true "dimples" (a pattern of small indentations in the foam), then my Zero is the only one that has them. All others I've owned (C-130, DC-3, Corsair, TM400, Me-109, P-38) all have smooth foam, but needed a light sanding to be totally smooth.
