stop!! i wouldnt fly it with hs 55 on rudder and elevator ,you need the hs 65 on the rudder and elev more than the aileron. you could strip them out and cause it to crash ,im using hs 55 on aileron and its fine. if your are going to use hs 55 take it easy

Here is my example of the MFX.
Park 480 1020
E-Flite 40A ESC
Park BEC
2 S-75's for AILs
2 HS65's for RUD & ELE
3S 2100 Lipo for power.
Ordering corona dual conversion rec. since the GWS had range problems.

Modifications:
Since I do not have a paved strip anywhere close by, I swapped the original wheels and pants for some 3" foam wheels and homemade SU-31 type fairings. It rolls pretty well through the grass. I also added aprox. 1.5" of foam to the back of the rudder to improve knife edge as suggested by several here.

HS-55's can suffice on the tail. That is what I have on mine and I have flown it pretty hard. Of course the 65's work as well if you want to pay the difference and get the extra torque. I have 55's in my katana mini too all around and just about every other plane I have this size and they have held up really well. IMO the only time I have to worry about stripping gears on them is when they are in storage and get bumped.

I believe the 55s will work but the 65 will give you great speed. The difference is very obvious.

I flew mine today after taking out some warp in the wing. Seems to fly straight now with neutral trim but the speed was increased considerably too with less drag from the trim not being required. Might have to go with some flaps now or move the battery back farther.

You guys that have added foam to the tail.... do you add it to both sides or just 1? Peel the covering off first, or just glue over it? what type of foam? etc.. etc.. etc...

Curious...

I have a spare Futaba gyro laying about. Would this be useful at all on this plane, and if so, on what control?

Gyros have been tried on 3D foamies and I believe the conclusion was not really effective.

It wouldn't be so bad if they let me cut down a few small trees. I have a small strip of rough but mowed grass surrounded by trees. Everything else is a field that only gets cut back 2 times a year. Of course I could try to fly between the trees and shrubs and land on the gravel drive nearby. Oh what I could do if I had a Bobcat... I can't even fit the plane into my car to take it anywhere else.

At least you can fly somewhere. I have to dodge baseball players on a field ( or really wait until there are no games) to fly. The only other option is to drive 1.5 hrs to go 26 miles in L.A. traffic to fly with at least 100 other people at the local flying site. There is nothing wrong with having to be a bush pilot.
