Horizon's new FULL spread spectrum radio hits the market

From the AMA web site http://www.modelaircraft.org/ :

*****
Spread-Spectrum RC System
Rosemont IL
Horizon Hobby introduced the new Spektrum DX7 spread-spectrum system at the iHobby Expo. The DX7 is the first full-range spread-spectrum radio-control system to be released on 2.4 GHz. This release ushers in a new era for the radio-control hobbyist.

AMA has been learning about and testing this new system since early August. In an effort to update the membership on this new system and the technology employed, Electronic Technology Committee member Dan Williams and Steve Kaluf have authored a new article on this next generation of spread-spectrum systems. This article appears in the December issue of Model Aviation which members will receive in November.

The article will describe what it has taken to get this particular system to this [full range] level. Hopefully it will help you understand in more detail why this technology will work so well and is so important for the radio-control modeler. We expect this product release is just the tip of the iceberg for this type of system. As any new spread-spectrum system is released, we will work to bring you the important information about that system. Hang on, it's going to be a fun ride!
Steve Kaluf, Technical Director

Congratulations!

I worked with some of the leaders in spread spectrum technology years ago. To bring this complex and sophisticated system to RC and at an affordable price is absolutely amazing. Again Congratulations.

I have a DX-6 I use in my prototype planes. I was one of the early adopters of the DX-6 I figured I'd hold off and let the early adopters get the DX-7. I think my next radio is going to be a multiplex.

My next radio, whatever the brand, will not be on 72Mhz. I'll still fly with my old 72Mhz radios as I have plenty of receivers, but anything new will be using 2.4G technology. Slowly phase out the old stuff over the years.... I currently have two DX6s and three receivers for them.

I love my DX6, I have 1 radio and 6 receiver in 6 planes and have never had an issue with any signal or interference at all. The spectrum is the way to go.

This is probably the beginning of the end of radio interference. I don't much understand how it works, but once I see how a few work in the field I will probably end up switching over. I think in a year or two the price will probably come down too.

What will sell me is a module for a full-featured transmitter like a Futaba 9c Super.

The only downside to this radio is the Rxs are a whopping $99. Better pick your s carefully with this.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Why would I want to downgrade from my current 8ch radio to a 7ch. I need a module for my XP8103!

Fortunately, the future looks bright for us too, eh screamin'?
