A great story for all who love flight and life itself.

I just wanted to share this with all of you. Many of you may know this story and many may not. I just had to find it today as I remembered my Grandfather reading it to me as a boy. It truly is one of the great works of our time...

May I present "Jonathan Livingston Seagull"

It has been many years since reading this.

I have to revisit it!
Thanks!

I saw the movie as well as reading the book. I had my son Mark read the book when he was about ten and then he did a school project on the book.

I liked the book.

The movie director wanted a R/C model of a Jonathan Livingston Seagull. So, Mark Smith designed, built and flew the R/C seagull. It used slope lift.

BTW, Ray Hayes kits two other models of Mark Smith's designs, WINDWARD and WINDFREE.

The story links the circle of R/C soaring history.

I was a middle teen back then when I read it the first time. I was in my 20's the next time. A well-written story. I went for the flying and aerodynamics rather than the theology.

Another great one is "Once Upon a Thermal" by Richard Wolters (out of print).

I had the opportunity to meet Steve Coonts at Oshkosh also.
They have a place called 'Authors Corner' where you can meet aviation authors, get autographs etc.
He wrote a great book about a flight across America in 1942 Stearman biplane, actually into all 48 states, titled "Cannibal Queen".

Steve Coonts has writen many aviation books, several that have been made into movies.

He wrote "Flight of the Intruder" and also the line of "Jake Grafton" novels.

Two of his latest books "Saucer" and it's sequel "Saucer the Conquest" are both good stories!
