Thanks Al and thanks for a great plan.

I am on weight but at the high end, using a 1200mah Lipo so thats upped the weight a bit.

Hopefully give it another go this weekend so will report back on Monday, assuming the weather plays ball.

MiniMonoTwirl

Hi,

Here's my latest version of this aircraft - the MiniMonoTwirl, with a 12 inch diameter rotor (about 50% of the original).

I've done a micro version powered by a 7mm pager which weighed 10 grams, but this one has a 5 gram brushless motor, Musclewire servos for rudder and elevator and a 3.7 gram servo for lateral rotor tilt. Microinvent receiver and a 2 cell 250mAh battery. Total weight 50 grams.

First flight on Saturday hopefully.

Enjoy,

Al

I attach a shot of it with "mother"

Hi,

The MiniMonotwirl flew for the first time today. No real issues to report, it went of fine from a hand launch into the 6 mph wind. I knocked an undercarriage leg off landing in the rough grass, but it is already fixed as I type.

No movie, I'm afraid, but I'll try to get one and post it soonest.

MiniMonoTwirl Movie

Hi,

Here is a link to a movie of the second flight. It was probably a bit too windy for the poor little thing, but it flew OK, apart from being hit by gusts. A bit twitchy in roll, but I can sort that at the transmitter end.

Look closely for a couple of unintentional rolls.

Hi All,
Does anyone know where the Monotwirl plan can be obtained from?
It looks a great little design and flies well

Regards Rich

Rostsislav,

I'm glad that your Monotwirl flew OK . Nice photos too.

For Rich, the Monotwirl was a free plan in the November 2007 Quiet and Electic Flight magazine.

If you need any info on it , please let me know by PM. There are a couple of movies on earlier pages of the thread.

Al,

why are you using an -8 angle of incedence on the Monotwirl blades instead of the -5.8 you used on the Twirl?

Jochen,

One of the early development rotors used the same blade angle as the Twirl but it did not spin up very well and the in-flight rpm was very low, around 200 rpm or less - if you unloaded the rotor it would almost stop. Rotor lift was not great either. The more negative blade angle made the rotor spin up quicker, the in-flight rpm was higher(250+rpm) and the rotor lift was greater.

Some more MiniMonoTwirl Movies

Hi,

I had another indoor meeting this morning. I tried a take-off with the MiniMonoTwirl. It was fine, more than can be said of the poor landing!!

Here's the movie link:-

Mini Monotwirl Autogyro 6 April 08 (3 min 22 sec)

Here's another previous indoor movie from last month. I posted it on the "Micro Autogyro" thread but forgot to post it here.

Mini Monotwirl 16 March 08 (2 min 46 sec)

Enjoy,

Hi AlFoot. Thank you so much for designing the Twirl!

Having made one recently, we are having a lot of fun watching it fly here in DHJW Singapore.

I was naturally excited and hoping to proceed to make the MonoTwirl but like the Twirl, is there any chance I could find a pdf plan for the MonoTwirl somewhere ?

Thanks and Best Regards
