New Micro Heli to hit the market from Hi-Max

I just seen this heli add http://www.helimax-rc.com/helis/hmxe04-index.html
Looks like its going to give the BCP/Cpp and HBCP2 a run for the money. Looks like a mini/micro T-rex.
I think I may have to get one. I see some needed upgrades right off the bat such as carbon boom and Lipo batteries. Besides that, El excellente!

Awww, man. A motor tail. I was all excited there for about 25 seconds.

Their web guy needs to proof read better. From the specs:

Weight: 16.5 in (468 mm)

Hmm. It is pretty, but unless that motor tail performs significantly better, or the heli/parts are significantly cheaper, I don't see it making much of a dent in the sales of the others.

Choice is always nice though.

EDIT: You know, the more I look at it, the more I like it. Very handsome. Maybe the N60 tail motor won't fail as quickly as the N30's we use in the other birds?

Indeed it does, it looks more like the GWS motors that some use direct drive on the CP and CP2. I just downloaded and watched the flight video. It looks like the tail is well-behaved, but that is hard to judge from a factory demo video.

Tower Hobbies lists it at $199.99, due mid-November. Decent price for a RTF setup. Hopefully they will follow up with a 'barebones' for those of us who already have good radios, but still want a small 'toss-about' heli for the front yard.

I noticed in the video that the Heli wasnt exactly whipping around at blinding speeds but Im sure that with a lighter battery pack and a 400 size motor things could change. Seems like it would be a good entry 3D heli. It does look more helicopterish(what we are more use to) than the other micros. A motored tail dosent bother me cause everyone knows Im not much of a 3Der, but who knows....

Darth, I don't really mind the responsiveness of the motor tail... I've got them pretty dialed in on my 'Bees. But the rather short life when running 3S is a bit of a bother. I'm running dual diodes on my CP2 tail motor right now, but haven't racked up enough stick time yet to see if it makes a lot of difference in lifespan.

If the bigger tail motor in that heli lasts as long as the main motor, that would be a good selling point!

I guess Ive been lucky on my tail motors because all mine has lasted many many flights. I think I had got one motor that burned out in a very short time. Oh yes, Im flying on 3s 880, 3s 1000, and 3s 1300 packs.

If you want tail motors to last longer on 3s packs, go to the Trec tail ESC! I fly a EDF50H on one Micro, 3s 1320 TP's no problems, and a DD on the other, 3s 1320 TP's, no problems! Now I know the 3in1's, 4in1's won't accept the Trec, but if you are pretty serious and flying 3s packs, I'd ditch those anyways and go seperates!

Hey Darth, since you also like Contra's, check it!

Holy smokes! More digging found the parts list at Tower Hobbies:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=HMXE04**&P=PU

The spare parts prices are insane!

$24.99 for a tail motor
$14.49 for a tail boom
$21.49 for wood blades
$84.99 for their 3-in-1

Even the common parts that almost always get bent in a crash cost 3-4 times as much as they do for my Honey Bee or T-Rex.

Come on, Heli-Max!! What color is the sky in your world?

Won't break the bank buying the Heli, but might be a little hard paying to maintain it!
