Hobby lobby skimmer washout question.

I am getting ready to build up the wing
for my HL skimmer 400 kit.

I have read in all the posts that 1/4 inch
of washout is desireable for this wing.

My question is did you build it flat
and then get the washout while shrinking
the cover or did you build a jig to use during
wing construction and just raise the rear
corner of the wing 1/4 of an inch.

Thanks,

Dave

I just set up mine that had wing built flat and covered flat. @ 5/16 wedge under trailing edge and reshrink covering get a little spring back and settled in at @ 1/4" Very easy to do this way than to build up with wash out, spar alignment very hard to keep consistant . Scott

Thanks for the info.

I will build it flat and then shrink the dihedral in.

WHAOH! wait a minute! Something got lost in translation!
You must build in the dihedral, and shrink in the wash-out!
Build the two wing panels flat, carefuly join the two panels with the supplied dihedral brace, one panel flat on the table, the other panel tip blocked up the prescribed amount.
After you cover the completed wing nice and smooth, THEN you shrink in the wash out. When you reach that point, if you think you need any help, give a yell!

No loss in the translation -> loss between the ears

I ment what I thought not what I typed.

I will build in the dihedral and then shrink in the
washout.

Man wouldn't that be a picture.
"I used my 40000 watt blow dryer to shrink in 2 inches
of dihedral, gee I wonder what that sound of cracking
balsa was, !#$@ I just trashed it (insert sound of me smacking
head against wall)".

I think you still need the washout.

Washout is to combat tip stall problems at low speed.

Ailerons don't help there.
