Giant scale F4U Corsair

My friend and I have constructed a Top Flite F4U Corsair. Our engine of choice is a Fuji-Imvac 43 EI. Our propeller is the recommended 20-10 power point. My problem is, according to the engine manual, this engine has a clockwise rotation. If that is the case, the recommended prop, is the wrong one. If the engine rotates in a clockwise direction, the plane is going to back up. If it is the wrong recommended prop, then I would think that we would need a pusher prop. If that is the case, and we put a pusher prop on it, and the engine rotates clockwise, what does this do to the three degrees of right thrust that is built to spec, in the plane? Or maybe, is the direction of rotation a misprint?

Appreciate some help with this problem

Brian, does the manual say engine direction when viewed from front or back?
I can't imagine, as popular as these engines are, that they really turn the "wrong" direction.

Brian :

I admitt that Ive never had that engine, but there is a mistake somewhere, possibly a type era in the instructions. that engine has to run counter clock wise, they are to popular to have not heard of this. Besides, to my knowledge, they dont make a prop to work like that unless specially ordered for a P-38 or something, even then the engines crankshaft would have to be designed to run that way because it wouldnt draw enough fuel to be reliable.
A pusher wouldnt work eather because that would reverse the pitch, and the cup of the blades. The pitch would be right, but the cup or leading edge of the blades would be going backwards.

Bottem line is that manual is wrong, I bet it wont even run clock wise.

Good Morning. The way that the manual is describing this direction of rotation, is that they are looking at the front of the plane, the only thing I can think is that it is possible that it could be a misprint.

Thank you

Good Morning Tim

Thanks for getting back to me, I agree something just isn't quite right in the manual. It is just not clear which way they are looking at it.

You view it from the back when talking about rotation...

Brian :

Dont feel bad, I didnt know that eather, we learn something everyday.

Another thing :

At least you were trying to read up on it before running it, most people dont do that, they just jump in and wonder why their engine ran hot and burned up.

Good luck,

Oh! if you have time, post some pictures of your plane and engine, I love pictures.

Hi Tim

This is Brian Coleman again. Thanks for you info, before, now I would like to run something by you again. Servos, It calls for 7 High Torque, and 2 Standard, and 1 Retract. Started doing some checking. Was looking at the 125 High Torque by JR, I was informed that these servos are not dependable, and that JR is coming out with another one to replace that one. I am wide open for suggestions.

I wish I had some advise there, but Ive never built a plane that size exept for a big slow flying Bi-plane Im building now with 77" ws . And it is such a floater that Im just using ordinary 3004 Futaba servos. And Ive never had any JR servo's, so Im not familliar with them or their #'s.

Sorry, I really wish I could help. You could post that question in the Forum and I bet you could get an answer tonight, maybe by one of the guys on this thread we are on here.
