Willy wonka's Swipe at NYC

As much as I loath Wonka ..and I apologizes to those who are offended
But when wonka said…

"You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed, and its five years later. So let's be fair,"

It's the truth....
It’s been 5 years and still there is no Freedom tower
One year to build the empire state building?

As for New Orleans....…Personally I think it’s gone and a useless cause
And it will never be the same...
keep the historical sections in tack as for the rest...well time will tell..
We should all be ashamed…Especially with this up and coming anniversary
There is no one to blame but our self’s on this one...

It may be true, but it's how he said it that got folks in an uproar.

The delivery of the 'hole in the ground' comment came off as an attempt to trivialize the WTC attack, as compared to Katrina.

Effectively, "My disaster is bigger than your disaster!"

Maybe the damage from Katrina was more widespread, but that doesn't make it all right to marginalize what happened in NYC with such a flippant remark. Almost twice as many Americans died on the 9/11 attacks as in Katrina, and almost NONE of those victims had any warning whatsoever.

Factor in that 'Willy Wonka' played a significant personal role in at least some of those Katrina deaths, due to his own indecision and inaction.

I couldn't care less if NYC ever builds anything on the WTC real estate or not.

Rick

Nothing has been built on the site because New Yorkers are inherently
greedy, rude, and indecisive.

But it was bigger, on every count but deaths. It is important to not parse his statement from the statements he was responding too:

Pitt---"You hear it all the time, 'Why can't you clean this area up faster than you have?' People blame you for that."

Nagan---"This is the cleaned-up version. I hate to put it in those terms. But right after Katrina, this was absolutely — you couldn't drive up this street," Nagin says. "We've cleaned up just about everything except for things on people's personal property. We have to contact a lot of these individuals and get their permissions to go here and demolish these properties."

Pitt---"But you can't get the cars out yet; you can’t get this demolished?"

I believe that would also fit the rest of the globe.

A better question would be "Have you been anywhere else"? Good hotdogs and bad pizza are native to New York. Rudeness and greed are not.

Of course. Except for the bad pizza part. That is clearly a fact.

The key to good NY pizza is to follow the cops. I have not been dissappointed yet.

For those as clueless as I was about who "Willy Wonka" refers to, I've googled it for you: http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ne...nG=Search+News

I knew Willy Wonka. He was a friend of mine. And Mayor Nagin, sir, is no Willy Wonka.

I think I'll watch Charlie & The Chocolate Factory tonight. No pizza, though.

Thank you for that, as I had no clue what Aerogel was talking about. Which happens to me frequently regarding his posts.

BTW, I much prefered the original Willy Wonka movie over Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, although I think Johnny Depp is a terrific actor.

Liked them both, very different portrayals, though. I was referring to the original though, which I bleev is titled "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."

Yup, that was it. A terrific movie, IMO.

I'll give Charlie another try. Just didn't appeal to me but I like Johnny enough to give it another shot.

Suddenly I have a craving for dark chocolate.......
