Performance of PZ Mustang, Focke Wulf, HZ Supercub with Lipo?

I am considering springing for a 3s 2100mah pack for use in my Focke-Wulf (and my Super Cub that's coming in the mail as we speak)... but I am wondering what kind of performance I should expect..

Has anyone tried this? Is vertical climb possible? What kind of run times have you found? Is it necessary to add nose weight?

The guy at the LHS said that the electronics in the new HZ Supercub are the same as the PZ units and can be made to accomodate Lipos by moving a jumper...he verifided this by talking with a Horizon Hobby tech..

Is this news to anyone else?

if the rx/esc units are indeed the same and i have no reason to suspect they are not, then, yes, what the horizon hobby tech advised is correct...by removing a jumper on the rx/esc board (manual should state which one), the rx/esc is then programmed for the correct lvc for lipo use...

as to the fw190, the stock setup generated peak input watts of 123.5...using a 3s 2100 lipo, it generated 194.2 peak input watts...over a 33% gain in watts...as to flight time, you can expect 10-15 mins depending on throttle use...

i believe the super cub uses the same motor and prop as the fw190...just not sure if the same gearbox/gearing is used...

It won't go vertical, but it's faster, flies longer and lighter. I think it's a good mod. I prefer a 1500 mah 3S pack. The 2100 ought to fly for 30 min.

Thanks for the info!

Would a TP 3s 1320mah be overtaxed in this application?

with a 1320 you'll have to add dead weight to the FW-190. A regular 2100 PL wont balance it in the stock position. IF you put it vertically up front it will balance it out. The 1320 would require dead weight so you might as well get some usefull battery power with the weight.

I get about 20 min of flying out of a 2100 lipo on the stock motor and gearbox.

with a fresh 15c 3s 2100 lipo, the fw190 will go vertical for a short distance...
