Eurofighter Maiden Flight Video

Well today was the day. Maiden flight went well despite a few aborted takeoff runs. Flew with canard function off. Programmed the canards as flaps and linked to elevons. I can fly with or without canard function but still able to trim canards in flight with rocker switch.

Plane flew well and my first landing was a high alhpa touchdown - way cool.

The begining of the movie is a little shaky but the wife got the video thing down after the first circuit. The last half of the flight I got her pretty well trimed and it picked up some speed.

Got in 4 flights

After I got her on the ground and inspected the plane noticed the fan blades were all chewed up and there was a layer of fine stone/dirt mix. Cant believe it flew as well as it did like that. One of my prior aborted takeoffs before the maiden ended up with the nose in a mud puddle. Should have checked.

Will change fan and fly her again soon. Plane will need more power but first have to fly it with a good fan. Then will try adding intake ring to fan housing as my internal ducting is probably not optimum. Then if all else fails to provide the level of performance I am looking for going to rebuild as twin.

Hey Hey!!! Looks like it flew real nice Matt!
AND we got our field back!!
I look forward to seeing it out there! Man, I can see it flying REALLY nice as a twin!
But the Single fan version looks promising!
Good job!
Vic.

Took her up again today with the new fan and it was a little better but not what I was looking for. Styffed a 4S pack in the plane and we were getting somewhere. Take off in about 60 ft and some good vertical performance.

Thought about rebuilding as a twin fan.

but then I had a better idea.....

Single minifan with Het 2W20 and 4S PQ 3700.

Took it out Sat for re-maiden and think I have a bad speed controller. Could not get the Minifan into a high rpm. Might exhchange the motor/battery/esc with the one in my Kyo T33 Het 2w, 3S 4200, 45 amp esc and try again next week.

Great job! Was just watching the Eurofighter on the Military Channel about 20 minutes ago. Looked like it had a nice wing area for flying, and then I saw this video.

Yes, Even though V1 was a simple box design it really flew well. I liked its flight characteristics.

Working on V2 - will be a more scale model and a twin fan. Currently working on the bulkheads in CAD. V2 will be in 6mm and 3mm depron with built up wings.

Work has been quite busy and has slowed me down a bit on this project.

Congradulations on a great build........

I was considering buying the Greatplanes HYPERFOW with a brushless AMMO motor....

If you think the Weomac Midifan is better..........Pls say so, and save me from headaches and lost money........

Thanx Steve

Just steve51,

The minifan and hyperflow fan are two different sizes - 70mm for minifan and 56mm for hyperflow. If you want a scale look in a small airframe the smaller fans are the way to go. I think they are both great fans for thier sizes. It is just a matter of which fits in the size airframe you want, plus you need bigger batteries, esc, motor for the minifan which means more weight.
