Steam engine for my TUG

The hull is scratch built, about 750mm (3 foot ) long and i would like to propell it with steam. I have an old Mechano steam engine but I would like to build something a little more controlable.

Instead of the Sailboat forum you might try RC Groups > Boats > Scale Boats.

Graupner sells a steam engine that may suit your needs. Also try www.loyalhannadockyard.com I think I remember running across a few different engines there as well. You also may want to find out if you will need a boiler certification in your area. I know it is a model but here in VA even model boilers need to be certed once a year even if they are not in service. (learned this after helping to rebuild a one foot guage live steam locomotive).

Moderator could you move this to the "Dock Talk" or "Scale Boats" section please.

Being heavily involved in steam engines, I can tell you that you will not need a boiler certification for your size boiler in any state. Boilers this small are exempt. Midwest makes a boiler and engine set up. So does PM Research and Cheddar in England too. Begining to wonder if we are in the sailboat forum here

if you would like to build something yourself, i'd suggest looking up stirling engines
there are some designs out there..it's no steam, but its something..and they make cool whistling sounds
