Anybody know who sells the 100 bulk pack Xacto knife blades cheap?

A small sharpening stone allows them to last forever. Just put a drop of light oil on it and run the blade at angle across the stone a couple of times on each side.

I got a 100 pack from my LHS for $20 cdn. It's a very good idea to buy these in bulk. they usually sellf 5 for $5, often forcing you to cut with a dullish blade. Another great thing is a bulk pack of single edged razors from the hardware store.

Reason why I asked is because the 100pack I purchased back in 1992 finally ran out. Paid $7.99 for that pack and found out the same shop now has the samething for $14. I knew there was inflation but didn't expect that much. Guess that's going price for these now a day.

Anyway thanks again. I'll just have to face the reality that this is not 1992 anymore.

I got a couple 100 packs of the clearance rack at office max a bit back I think they were marked down several times. It seems office folk don't use them like RCers. I think they were 1.99$ each and only 2 or I'd have snarfed them all and been offering you a pack at cost. I just mention it because I'd have never looked there.

I'm with kdahlhaus, I started sharpening and I think I am on the same blade for about a year now and I do use it regularly. If you don't have a sharpening stone then you could do it on a wood block with fine sandpaper attached.

Does anybody know if the genuine Xacto branded blades are actually better than the generics? They usually cost a bit more.

The X-acto brand blades are made of harder steel and hold their edge longer. I think they are worth the difference in price just so I don't have to change blades as often. This is where I get mine:

I hear ya. About 3 years ago I bought 100 while at a club show for around 8 bucks. I went to that same guy at the show this year because I was getting down to the last few blades. He now wanted 15 bucks for 100 generic blades. I passed and was left thinking the guy was a wanker for wanting so much.

I then went to the WRAM show in the spring with the intention to have fun and maybe pick up some blades. One hardware shop that was located on the main floor wanted 12 bucks for 100 generic blades and 20 bucks for the good German variety. I passed on those and passed on two more vendors on the first floor who wanted 14 to 16 dollars. I finally found a smaller hardware shop in the basement area where I was able to buy 100 generic blades for 10 bucks.

I know you are thinking "boy this guy is a cheap bastsard!" And you'd be right. But after that first 15 dollar offer, the mission to get them at a lower price became a quest from which I gleaned a perverse satisfaction. I'm going to look forward to hunting down 100 new blades in a few years. Maybe I'll be able to find them for under 20 bucks, maybe not. Who knows?

I recently bought one of those EDJER Sharpening sets for Xacto blades. I purchased it off of a guy here on RCG and before it came I thought how I had just paid so much to sharpen $.15 blades. After it got here and I used it, I don't think I'll ever have to buy blades again. My blades are actually sharper than when they come out of the package new.This thing is worth every penny!!!

I could not get the sharpener from Edjer to work, it would actually make a new blade dull if I used it on there. It did seem to make the tip sharper for cutting balsa or lite ply but if I sharpened one and tried to cut covering material it would just not slice thru it like a new blade would. I was using the sharpener exactly like the instructions said so I really dont know how I was doing anything wrong.
