First attempt at an F3P Design.

This is my first go at using CAD so I thought while I'm learing to use it why not draw something interesting......

I'm mostly posting them for some feedback from the guys who have designed sucessful F3P models, but any constructive critisism is very welcome.

I freely admit to being inspired/influenced by existing models and there are no plans for kits so lets not start down the "design ripoff" road again please.

These drawings could be built from but they are not scaled right yet so some adjustment to the scale will be needed to get them printed at the right size. But anywhere from a 810mm (~30") to a 860mm (~32") span should be fine. I had aimed for a ~180gm (6.5oz) flying weight (I usually build light anyway) with a 480 2s Shocky type setup.

If anyone wants to scale the drawings (easy I'm sure if you know how) or convert them to pdf. etc. feel free. They are there for you to use. (If any one wants to kit it thats fine too....just send me acouple. )

Anyway, let me know what you think. Its the only way I'll learn.....

Matt.

Hi Matt,

I can't open them as DWG files could you try them again saving them as DXF format. Also depending on the cad program you are using see if there is an export function on the file menu. You may be able to create a PDF directly.

thanks

Ok Tim, try these. They should be in dxf format.

Unfortunately my CAD (progeCAD LT 2006 ,freeware) won't export to pdf.

But ya get what you pay for, and since it was free I think its great!

Unscaled PDF's 400mm span ???

The attached PDF's are not scaled but I think are approximately 400mm span. Good for a look at and you should be able to print them off by shrinking them onto A4 using ADOBE ACROBAT

Tim

Tim,

Thank you very much for doing that for me.

Don't worry about doing the other one unless you want to, the templates are all that needs to be full size. The full plan can be A4 sized as its just a guide really.

I hope you weren't waiting all that time for dinner still......

Matt,

You can install a pdf printer to be able to create your own PDF's. I use CutePDF .
It is free .

Tim,
what are you using to tile it? I have done it from AutoCad using CutePDF to create each page and CutePDF pro to merge them, but it is a pain!

Whopper, I like the look of the plane. I'm not sure I understand the construction of the fuse, but you've got an asthetically pleasing airplane so far : )

Hi Pat,

a bootleg copy of Adobe Illistrator for doing the tiling then feed it into Ghostscript/Ghostview (these are two shareware programs search google for them).

I still need to figure out how to put an alignment grid on the initial plans but most likely I will just add another layer before virtually cutting them up. Once you have set up Illistrator to print multipage print them as a postscript file using a phantom ps printer. Then bring them into Ghostview press "one" button pick a file name and out comes the multipage PDF.

Simple once you know how

Hi Matchless,

Thanks for the kind words.

The plans do assume familiarity with F3P building techniques (ie. little constrution detail shown) and the fuse construction is basically the same as the Equalizer/Breeze ie. full fuse with a horizontal crutch that runs fron the stab to the fiirewall.

On the drawing the 3 wedge shapes in to the right are in order left to right:
Fuselage forward turtledeck
Fuselage bottom from the lower wing rearwards (with a vent just behind the wing)
Fuselage horizontal crutch (with an elevator servo relief at the front)

The rudder servo tray is below the horizontal crutch, just forward of the lower wing.

To the centre left is the firewall and motor mount doublers (only 1 doubler shown, can be doubled up as shown to get the motor further forward.)

Having said that these drawings should be fine to build from if you fill in the 'blanks' to suit your own way of building.

Matt.

ps. I need a name for this thing too. Any suggestions?
