So going by the fact of inefficiency loss (33%)
Then 4KW should get you to almost equal to the power of the 7X7 prop setup!
Which means you will go about a little bit faster toward to end of your runs!
But your punch-out won't be the same!

Now EDF's sounds freaking cool.
I am interested in using one of those 10 and 12 blade EDF's that are out now.
They spound more realistic, and seem to run cooler!
80 mm fan is a good size, to start with.Good luck brother!
Damm rain started and they are talking about snow down to the 3500 foot level.
Which means we got about 2 weeks in Oregon!

This big motor might just make close to those 4000W at EDF RPM and power levels.

My friend, bought one and thought he would let me play with it.

Well I am going to play with it. rite after I mount a motor to it and put it with anohter in the A-10. I have heard many nice things about these newer EDF.

MY GOSH !!!!!!!
i thought you were gunna give a link to an aluminum EDF ...................
You will have tremendous thrust with a 12 blade fan, but how will the top speed be ???
I suppose we will just have to see !!
Are you gunna choke down on the discharge to increase the e-flux speed ?

Sorry Doc,
But that video of an A-10 wallowing in the turns and playing chicken shiiiiit with WOT for 5 seconds doesnt make my blood flow ....................... even the grassy takeoff seemed boring !!

33% power landing ??????????
And it looked like a crash ?????????/

I hope your A-10 will be better than this video !!!!!!!!

I suppose if it aint a Stryker ............................................. well you know !!!

They built it to be flown at WWII shows.
It is nice.
But it is mostly a Hangar Queen!
Mine is not going to be made for the hangar.
I am looking at a 8S setup.
8.5 lb plane needs 200 watts a lb = 1700 watts x 2 = 3400 watts

Really I am wishing it stays together when I punch it!
And yes I will be vaccum the wing!

Some inspiration &encouragement for murdo:

NASA cruise efficient STOL aircraft concept (0 min 36 sec)

I do wonder whether "robbing" the high-pressure flow off of the lower side is going to require a higher angle of attack and an increase in drag, but at least one of NASA's CESTOL concepts is doing something similar...

Having 40% of the fan's intake below the plane should also take some advantage of the higher air pressure on the bottom of the airfoil to ram more air into the fan.
I'll also be happy to compare the integrated fan setup with a top mounted one, if that's the route any other EDF Strykers have used in this power range.
I'm only choking down the fan's thrust tube to 82% instead of the 75-80% I'd use for a more slippery airframe.

I'll be cleaning up the intake areas on both top and bottom to get the smoothest air possible into the fan.

The Eflite 80mm fan takes a 28mm inrunner, so I'm going to use the biggest 28mm Mega I have to slam it with 3kW and 52,000 RPM or better.
16/45/1.5RCE at 1985kv would run around that on 9S.

3kW on a 7x7 prop will push my Strykers to around 170mph, so yeah, the speed will take a hit with the 28mm setup.
But the airframe may also get a fan and motor upgrade at some point, too

I think the concern is valid. Only makes sense that (assuming the higher pressure actually does make it into the fan) there would be less pressure differential, causing reduced lift.

I won't really fret about losing some lift on high speed stuff, though. The Stryker has a lifting airfoil at 0 degrees angle of attack. And the faster you go, the more lift the airfoil generates unless you lower the AoA. I haven't proven it, but my suspicion is that a 150+mph Stryker is actually flying at a negative AoA, causing increased drag.

So I'm happy to dump some of my lift into the power system!!
