Question
Electric Conversion of Great Planes Venus 40 ARF

I just won a Venus 40 ARF at my club (San Fernando Valley RC Flyers)meeting and I am thinking of converting it to electric. I am considering one of the new E-flite glo sized outrunners, either the '46' or the '60'.

Has anyone out there converted this plane or does anyone have suggestions for a conversion? The wingspan is 55, area 568 sq. in. weight 4.8 to 5.3 pounds (glow).

I'm running a Hacker B50-13S (6.7:1 gear) with Tanic 5s 3650's and 15x10E prop. If you are going to use one of the Eflite outrunners and want to fly the Venus the way it's meant to be flown, you need to use the Power 60 on 6s with 15x10 or 16x8E prop and PHX 80 or equiv esc along with a UBEC or seperate battery for the rcvr....UBEC is lighter. The Power 46 will NOT cut it. By the way...this is a SWEET electric conversion and so far it's the best plane in my fleet. We'll see if my Fliton Inspire 60 changes that. One important note, if you go with the Power 60 you will be more nose heavy than the Hacker setup I'm running which is slightly nose heavy with no room for me to move the battery's back which are about the lightest candidates for the amp requirement. I had to add some lead to the tail. It flew pattern great a little nose heavy but it's much better with the cg closer to neutral...does an awesome blender into inverted flat spin. With that said, if I had it to do over, I would move the rudder and elevator servos to the tail so I did not have to add "dead" weight. With the Power 60, this will most likely be a must to get the cg correct. It may add some time to your build but I guarantee it will reward you in the air.

Look forward to hearing how this setup works out as it's about $100.00 less on the power setup. Please keep us posted.
