Not a bunch faster. I'm landing on pavement with wheels. I need to work on a better approach and learn to fly it in smoothly with a little power on.

Larry, just remember to keep the speed up. They tend to tip stall on slow turns, as do most world war 2 fighters. A fast landing approach is better than a tip stall at low altitude. Practice your landing pattern while high in the sky until you get a comfortable speed established.

Mark your calendars gents. I actually did something I said I was gonna do in less than a year timeframe. Silver belly out, flat grey belly in. Visibility is much improved, not getting ocular cramps like before. My buddy rwmson took some shots to mark the occasion. Been finishing this thing between sporadic flights for two years now. Maybe this winter we'll touch it up and give it some markings.

alpea 41 - what motors are you using to get away with a 1000 mA battery?

Sounds like the stock brushless, which I found too anemic to fly from grass.

We're using GWS 2208 BL with GWS 9x5 HD props. It takes off with gusto , flight time 3 and 1/2 min. But gets a little slow as the battery gets 1/2 depleted. All in all it's a good light weight motor combo tho. the 1000 ma 3s battery is a 40 c Rhino. Here's some really good photos of it at our club field yesterday http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/show...ostcount=13570

And here's a professional video of it flying. If it's approved by GWS it will be the Official new GWS product video http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/show...ostcount=13701

That's a very nice video, and shows (my opinion) that the stock motors are really best on paved fields: mine simply wouldn't make it off the grass.

At high speeds, this airframe REALLY performs.

Anyway, that's a wonderful video.

Thanks I'll tell the guy that made it. I put it up at another thread, off topic and got crap about GWS never has stock and bad electronics . R/C Groups has gotten a few posters that are so negative about things I've gotten to where I don't even want to contribute anymore.

alpea 41, don't let it get you down. There are always going to be "know it alls" with negative comments about any subject. It's funny that when I show up with my GWS P-38 silver in color all of the other flyers come around and admire it asking "Who makes that?" I'm just using the Hobby Lobby 400XT motors and it flies just great.

Post a link to the other tread so we can go on and say what a great time we're having with our P-38's. I was flying mine at a fun fly recently and got a lot of compliments on it. Everyone thought it was the EFlite P-38.

Flies great, looks cool and I really dig it. I fly it just about every time I go out which is 3-5 times a week.

Mine is Army green, too, but I don't have the elevator balance fitting.

Did you find that somewhere, and if so, where?

I get lots of compliments, especially regarding how the airframe looks in the air and performs.

And, let's not forget the GWS ME 262, a real screamer!

I got it from a box of EFlite P-38 parts that I bought from someone. I was afraid it would pull off when belly landing in grass but so far so good.

I have to make some new cowls and maybe try to make some new blisters for the booms and see if I can repair the canopy plastic. They melted on the same day the flying photos were taken. I left it in the sun and it was hot that day.

Yikes!

Maybe put a wanted ad somewhere, here?

I'll bet there's a dusty airframe somewhere.

Thanks for the info.
