I have a feeling the shipping will be on the high side, so I just have to decide if I will actually put the model together in time to fly it before the LHS's start to carry them...
If not, then there's no reason to jump on it early (unless you like showing the cardboard box to people)

There is some fun and enjoyment in being a "beta tester" in effect. Finding and fixing any possible problems or upgrades.

It would be interesting to know how many people actually have earlybird models shipped to them? Maybe GWS can tell us about how many orders they have recieved (less than 50? 100? 500? ...) but that might not be info they want to share.

As much as I like having to be a Beta Tester for FREE, as the excitment of a new model always has given me satisfaction, I would have to agree with your assessment about the Shipping Costs.....last time I received an e-mail from Joyce saying that Shipping was $25.00 US to ship the FORMOSA-II a couple of months ago. I am not surprise in the least that GWS is scrambling to downside the Box so, Shipping cost would be minimized and more Early Birds will commit.

I guess really we are "Alpha testers" since they are in full production and are not prototypes.

And it's not free, we're paying extra for that privelage. But GWS prices are so low that I am willing to part with the extra shipping costs for a nice, quality model (hopefully).

From what I understand, the final box is not ready yet, so Joyce does not have a shipping amount. We should all get emails when they have it ready to ship.

I'm thinking (hoping) for a mid-Sept ship date.

Also - changed my mind on the color. Since it is a white foamie, I'm going with the "White Lightning" scheme.

Folks, note that the difference between brushed and brushless configurations is just US$5, which is half the difference between painted and non-painted! This is a landmark in the adoption of brushless motors.

Ray, in the brushless versions will the motors come with ESCs? What about the brushed versions?

Hi Malcolm,

Only 2 BL Motors & also with BL Motor Mounts. No ESC in the kit.

Same as to Brushed Motors. No ESC in the kit.

I agree and my costings are:-

Two GWS 2208-18Ts plus two Tower Pro 10 amp ESCs US$66.
Two GWS EPS-300s plus one GWS ICS600E ESC US$ 53

Cost difference US$13

Demo video for GWS 38?

Is there any official demo flight video from GWS?

I recall even the illusive GWS P-40 has had a demo video posted by GWS.

Regarding the cost difference between brushed and brushless setups - the only reason I'm going brushed to begin with is the fact that I have two complete motor and gearbox setups from previous kits, and an idle brushed ESC that will work. Otherwise, I would have probably purchased the brushless setup offered.

It's great that GWS is pioneering the low cost brushless kit revolution. It will be nice to get a brushless motor in future kits.

Now I need to go and think about upgrading my Cargotrans with 4 Feigao 12mm brushless inrunners.
