I do not think that the use of three cells with the 2205 is viable as both the motor and propeller efficiency is less and therefor the performance will not be improved. Remember the GWS-38 has 2 1/4 inch spinners so only about 1-1 1/2 inches of propeller will be exposed to airflow each side of the spinner.

jamesdr, thank you for posting the photos. I was trying to figure out how to mount those motors to GWS mounts and finally gave up and went on to assembling the plane and setting everything else up. Now with the photos, I can mount the motors. Thanks again, Gene

jamesdr, are those GWS 400 size motor mounts? I ask, because the 350 motor mounts seem too small in diameter.

Well, I'm still waiting for the motor mounts that I ordered along with the motors from Raidentech. I received the motors but they didn't send the motor mounts. They circled the item on the "paperwork" so I know that whoever packed the order knew that the motor mounts were not included in the shipment. Two e-mails and I get a response "We're looking into it". I've never had this problem with Raidentech before. Did they change owners or something?

I think they are 400's - they came with the motors. (From Raidentech by the way)

The GWS EPS-400 mounts are black and the inside diameter is 32.5mm. The GWS EPS- 300/350 mounts are gray and the inside diameter is 28.6mm.

Power Question

Do you think a couple of these will power the 38 well enough? They're Scorpion 2208-30's and I'm hoping to get by with 2S for now.

Thanks,
Tony

Using the motor parameters supplied by the web site, MotoCalc predicts:-

Scorpion 2208-30 motor, GWS 9 x 5 x 3 blade counter rotating propellers and a Hextronic 2200 mAh 3 cell 20 C battery pack.

Static running before launch.
Motor Amps = 26.1
Motor Volts = 10.4
Input (W) = 270.3
Prop RPM = 5872
Thrust (oz) = 43.5
PSpd (mph) = 27.8

Flying predictions.
Top speed at Wide Open Throttle = 48 mph
Duration at top speed with a 2200 mAh 3 cell 20 C battery = 14 minutes.

The combination looks to be an excellent choice. The efficiency when on the ground is not good but it improves greatly once the propellers unload in flight. The current draw drops greatly when the model is flying and this is a characteristic of the new GWS HD 3 Blade propellers on this twin engined model.

very doubtful those motors will work with a 2 cell lipo
3 cell yes, 2 cell maybe but it will be going slow you might get passed by a slowstick
