Please post photos of your Tiger Moth carbon fiber landing gear!

Hey fellow TM flyers,

I have had enough of the wimpy stock GWS landing gear.

I have some .060 carbon fiber rod that I want to build new landing gear with. I want to make the landing gear look somewhat scale too. Since I have not had much experience with carbon fiber, I was wondering if you guys can help me out and share how you built your landing gear with carbon fiber rod. I am also interested in making it compatible with the TM floats, otherwise removeable.

Let the photo posting begin . . . !

Thanks,

CheeseWing

Hi CW, I've seen a couple 'moths done with cf landing gear but I don't think it was removeable.

I made some from thicker wire and it worked great. Once my landings improved I went back to the thinner wire again.

The mods I've found most useful were to strengthen the landing gear channel in the fuse with strips of plastic cut from the scrap strut material. That made it necessary to put a small vee bend in the top of the gear, that lets me keep the motor wire connected when removing the gear. Just have to push the battery wire out of the way and the gear slides right out.

I also added some meat tray foam strut fairings and a hook made from a paperclip to hold a rubberband to sorta look like the full scale landing gear.

Is that a dead stick landing or just an artifact of the photo?
Way cool.

Hi there,

There is another way of making a removable landinggear for the Moth or any other plane in this weight catagory. As posted before in

C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\planes\R-C Groups Discussion - New design for slowflyer, fiberglass undercarriage.htm

you'll see a construction with fiberglass rods available tru kite shops. These rods are more flexible than carbon fiber and can be attached (under a certain angle) in holes (or tubes that are glued in) made in the fuselage. I've used this succesfully in different designs now.

Hope these pict's (Aiptek Mega Cam closeups....... ) can explain a bit more.

See You.
