Hi and sorry for my bad english (I'm from Belgium)

I'm using Phoenix since one month now and really love it. The reason why I don't make a little review is that I'm flying only since 6 months (in real life ). I fly with a Twinstar II and just bought the Graupner micro Bell 47G (same as the Twister Bell).

I've also Reflex Xtr and I think Phoenix is equivalent to Xtr. I've also played with Aero Fly Pro Deluxe and like it for fixed wings (not too much for helis).

For me, Phoenix is good for both (helis and planes). It also have a fun part like baloon poping, torque/hover training, water effects,...

The price is cheaper and the support/programmer team is excellent (quick email answers, quick updates, new models,...).

Just red on there site that a new update will be available...

-------------------
1.02 Update
This first update is currently undergoing final testing and will be available shortly.

New Features:
- All new 3D helicopter and 2/4-stroke 3D airplane sound effects.
- Maximum recording time increased to 5 minutes.
- Phoenix now disables screensaver on startup/re-enables on exit.

Enhancements:
- More advanced lighting system for all sceneries and models.
- Improved rotor-blur effects.
- Alpha-masking for increased background/model interaction.
- Increased silhouetting against sunshine and light-glare.
- Improved glass-reflection effects.

Helicopter dynamics:
- Gyro system improved for more realistic blowouts during extreme manuevres.
- Improved drag-profile for greater falling speed against gravity.
- More blade flapping during extreme manuevres.
- Increased pitch-range: -13 to +13 degrees.

Fixed-wing dynamics:
- Even more realistic spin-physics for enhanced tumbling and flat-spins.
- Increased stability during prop-hanging.
- Increased inertia for greater feeling of weight.

Bugs fixed:
- Incorrect pitch display on transmitter on recording playback.
- Number-pad control input compatibility issues.
- Improved error-detection when user loads video without correct model installed.

We will also be releasing new models and sceneries, as well as several from the original release with improved textures and enhanced visuals

Greetings and sundry salutations
I have been using XTR and AFPD for over one year now.
Recently I have aquired Phoenix.
My ratings are:

Scenery
AFPD/Phoenix (both very good, more variety in AFPD)
XTR (bad lighting on a lot of sceneries, ie you are flying into the sun and hence see the model in sillouette. Also dislike the no fly zone feature)

menus
Phoenix (Good picture selections)
AFPD
XTR (clunky, old fashioned menus)

Aircraft
All three are great models, more available in the longer running software, ont surprisingly.

Physics of models
Phoenix
AFPD
XTR (time frame is too fast, and also gravity seems strange.)

Viewing/camera options
AFPD Many options to vary
Phoenix
XTR

Price
don't care, funtionality is more important to me rather than saving $20

Setup
all easy and straight forward.
*Phoenix*
futaba transmitter is ok.
JR9303 transmitter was terrible*******
When you open the calibration area of the program the input signals are in perpetual motion (spcm or ppm)). This is interferance from the PC which only happens on JR tx's and not the Futaba. Almost unusable for the heli flying. This is a major issue for me as I want to use the sim with my main TX. Problem solved, turned out to be a foulty cable plug. Replcaed thte plug and its now fine.

PC stability
AFPD (plug and play, good framerates even on my laptop. No issues in over one year)
Phoenix (easy to install, stable so far. Works well on my laptop, although not at full quality)
XTR (Multiple reloads and hassles on three different computors. Crashes regularly. Works uselessly on my laptop at 7fps where AFPD does 30fps)

Overall, my preferance is AFPD for practice/fun.
I may start using Phoenix as my primary sim. Particularly as more models/sceneries are made.
XTR, too may grey hairs over it. I know it has a loyal following, just my experiance and preferance.
Regards

JR bug? I am using a 9x2 (same as 9303) works fine. this is probably a silly question but are you using PPM?

Just as it would in the real world then

I don't think the issue with the JR tx is a bug, more a compatability issue with how you have the TX set or a fault with your particular cable. If its decoding a PPm signal from a futaba TX then there is no reason why it won't work with a JR tx in the same mode. I would assume that the interface uses either a 16C745 or 18F2550 type microchip which has been programmed to for edge detection of a PPm signal irrespective if its possitive or negative going.

Thanks anyway for the comparason between Phoenix and two of the top sims. I'm sure it will help those who are considering purchasing a sim in the near future

Ade, does Phoenix work with Windows 2000? They say minimum requirement is Windows XP. Kind of cryptic.

Anyone know if you can use the G3 controller with phoenix? I don't like using my real tx with simulators.

No clue, All I know is it's a USB interface.

http://www.realflight.com/products/interlink.html

I was able to setup and use the Interlink Plus with both Clearview and with Microsoft Flight simulator so it's just a standard usb interface.

Ade, do you know if a Spektrum DX6 controller will work with Phoenix?

I am liking the sound of Phoenix better than FSOne at the moment. The only other hurdle is ordering from the UK as Canada often hits you with 33% tax and duty on anything ordered outside of Canada.

Another question, does any one know if Phoenix supports wide screen resolutions? Specifically looking for 1680x1050 resolution for my monitor.

So they are not going to support interfaces that are not real radios? Things like this:

http://www.helidirect.com/product_in...roducts_id=890

I know of a few other usb devices as well but I can't find them right now. The fact that I can't use one of these unfortunatly seals it for me that I won't be buying it. I know people use their radios every day on the simulators but I just don't like doing it. I'd rather use a purpous built controller for that.
