Salto H101 Weight/CG
Lighthorse-
I have a friend who is about to complete his Salto and needs to know approximately how much weight he needs to add to arrive at the recommended CG location. Thanks Mike |

pill cup to the area I am going to add the weight and pore bird shot into it until it almost balances. Mix in epoxy and pore. I fine tune it after that. Be careful The CG location that Quiet Flyer said is wrong. Another Salto I balanced To there location had the most haryist flight I have ever had luck and I mean pure luck I was able to bring her in with only minor damage. Nobody has ever told me the correct CG for the Salto. My other one the one in the picture is close but it is still not right. Last edited by lighthorse; Oct 01, 2007 at 11:02 AM. |

Hi there - did you ever get the CG location figured out? If not, I can help. It is fairly easy to calculate a good starting position for the CG. If you need help, let me know via PM and I will post a small article in this forum for CG calculation. This seems to be quite a common inquiry!

The plane was very squirrelly. I did manage to bring it in but cracked the tail boom. What was the most upsetting was the fact that the representative of this plane and every one else out there that has one would not answer my question of the CG location. The state of the scale RC sailplane hobbiest has really declined since John Derstine diapered. At least with John you would get some kind of an answer. Tony-
My friend did get his CG set after some trial and error; he started nose heavy and then took some weight out. I'll find out where the CG ended up and will post it here. Mike |

Lighthorse, interesting statement regarding John Derstine.
As a sailplane dealer I assume that John monitored RCGroups with a much higher attention than the rest of us as flyers and was therefore in a position to respond to questions. I am not sure who sells the Quit Flyer models - was it John? This may or may not help, but when I post a question I add a "QUESTION" flag or a "HELP" flag to the post and title the post with a summary of the question itself. This generally gets a better response from the RC community than if I flagged the post with some other, less relavent flag. Anyway, I have decided to add a post here regarding CG calculation for future references. If you get a situation in the future where you need to calculate the CG location, you can use the RCGroups search function to find it. Tony Elliott |

Quiet Flyer is a magazine. The Salto is the one that Icare Carries.
The review was in the April 2007 issue p70 stating that the CG was 2.90 - 3.35 from leading edge. So I started at 3". That was its last flight. I will probably repair the boom this winter. The Boom just cracked it did not break off. |

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but I am interested in the Baudis 4m Salto and I am looking for a flight report, can anyone let me know their opinions once you had the CofG sorted out? Thanks all Steve |

The two maiden saltos, mine is on the left, see how you can tell them apart!!
![]() This was after the maidens, both have the CG set a bit before the recommended, say about 70mm, however the conditions were very gusty making a valid trim setting impractical. However they towed up well, were very well behaved (lots of expo) Very Hard to see!! Need more work on the brakes to elevator compensation, but when you get it right its a real greaser. Can't wait to get them on a slope, they absolutely honk!! |
