So, I've tiled 3 plans now. And have it down pretty quick. But now, I'll just wait until anyone asks for specific plans to be tiled so I don't do all of them.

I love the look of the Afriel and it looks like a great flying plane. Could you also do a larger tiled version? Something like a 32in wingspan would be great.

Hi there,

I am ( one of many ) designers for one of the Global Heli Brands. Been in this crazy hobby a little while. With F3P, it's not a good move to scale things up. They are so light with minimal strength, a larger version would not fly well. It would flex, you'd need stronger servo's, a different motor / prop / Li-po, everything changes...

In particular the Afriel has been very well designed and tested I have been told. So will tile to the designers' spec. Believe me, I'm saving you a world of pain.

The Afriel has proven itself to be a competition capable AM model since 2007 and has undergone many updates since late 2006. I've been asked a number of times about a plan now is the time to make this happen. New ideas and designs are coming forward for the 2011 / 2012 season.

Build instructions are available for those who would like them but are 6mb until I can compress them further. So an Email is required to get them to you.

yes, i'm so curious about the "What software did you use to read the DXF?" too .. have you any suggestion of any other software too, thanks

Adobe illustrator is best to edit. Acrobat will read. All cad programs open dxf but 3dcisca world of pain

There is aa free dxf reader here: http://www.edrawingsviewer.com/pages...XF-Viewer.html

Corel draw will also open dxf's and can be save to PDF's but I'm not sure it can publish to tiled PDF's

DraftSight is a full blown 2D CAD package that as well as the dwg & dxf formats will also export to PDF etc for sharing.

Produced by the same people as SolidWorks and whilst not opensource etc it is zero cost licence.

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately, the problem with DraftSight, or any CAD Software is that it takes a fair amount of time to learn. And moreso tiling is painful. To my knowledge there are no wizards or the like you just hit.

However, as pointed out by PMackenzie, Adobe PDF Reader version 10 (X) does offer tiling (Don't know if it opens DXF and DWG but these are the original generic formats so pretty sure it would).

So, Rather than you lot waiting for me which is painful, I'm going to find a program that can do it all and write a set of instructions so everyone can tile themselves. I think that's the best way to go now.
