How do I get clips down in file size?

HELP!
Took my first video clip today with still camera.
It's fine, but 58 sec. is 33M file size.
Most guys are posting 4~5 M clips.
How do I get the 33M file down in size.
Thanks,
John

This is a quick note that will not be too helpful.

I'm on a Mac, and iMovie comes pre-installed. It is basic editing software and can do compression. Having used pro level stuff that costs a fortune I would say that if there is something with capabilities similar to iMovie you would be well off getting that rather than something expensive that has a huge learning curve.

I have a couple of Windows laptops, and I use them mainly for flight sims and to downlink and process my Eagletree telemetry data. I look forward to reading what other people have to say, even though I am comfortable on the Mac so far.

BTW, I have not yet had a chance to fly the Eagletree stuff and so far am only using the Piccolario vario on my glider. That needs nothing but an audio rx on the ground. Wow am I lazy! Same thing as the video editor, simple is better, and gets used more.

Pete

PS — I didn't get a chance to look at your video, I am on dial-up at home, but have access to broadband on the weekends, so will look then.

Pete,
Thank you very much.
At least I know compression is needed, and reasonable software may be available somewhere.
Regards,
John

On a WindowsXP machine use Microsoft's Movie Maker. Version 1.1 came free with Windows XP. An updated version 2.1 became available with Service Pack 2. If you have autoupdates turn on then you should already have Movie Maker on your computer.

It's pretty easy to use but here are some simple instructions from MS.

I hope this helps.

Leon.

Hi,

Now that I am on broadband, it looks like you have a non-working file. If I try to play it I get a broken file symbol, and if I try to download it I get 4 bytes.

Leon,
I found it! It's been sitting under my nose all the time.
Wow, for something so valuable they sure make it hard to find.
The simple instruction link is great!
Thank you so much!

Thanks to you also Pete.
Regards,
John
