Looks good. I may borrow that detail on the deck. Good idea. I really like the striping too.

haha, thanks guys. The splash gaurd idea came from my real sailboat(SunFish), its a little 14' (i think) speedy type boat, single sail..lots of fun. All i need to finish this is some brass tubing and dowels for the sails. anybody no the measurements for a Cat sail for a 1ft footy?

thanks again, jake

oh, and the splash gaurd it made from a thin strip of balsa to get the frame, then I used spackling for teh curvature on the front.

I have considered a splash rail on some of mine, but it was not appropriate for any of the models. Glad you did it! Good extra protection for the diving bow syndrome The hull looks good!

How about a model of the Sunfish? Has anyone thought of this? I think it would a great project, and a simple model, with a simple rig. Any comments on this?

mr Fix it, I had thought of making a model sunfish before, but I am not yet a skilled enough builder to take that leap. I will eventually try it though i hope! If anyone needs measurements on the sunfish, I can give them too you.

I wish I could remember who made it but there was a sunfish kit produced a while ago- either Dumas or Sterling, I'm guessing. I think it was designed as a 'free sailer'-- the hull of the sunfish being so shallow that putting old standard sized RC gear in it would have been a challenge!

An RC sunfish model in the 30" range could be a lot of fun to build! it has a straight forward hull shape, etc...

Hee hee, the ones I used to sail back in the 70's and early '80's had factory 'racing stripes' on the decks and aluminum trim around the hull to deck joint! I guess they changed the molds a few years ago and have made them a bit more refined.

Hee hee, sounds like the same style! I guess they have changed the hull to deck joint on them so that they are more like Lasers. Nicer for hiking and easier to build.

do you race your sunfish?

i want to race it, but my mom never realy takes me out to sail it . we've had it for 2 years now and its only been out 1 time, sadly. I bug her everyday, literaly, to go sailing but her excuse is always "its not windy enough(when it is windy enuff) or, "I have stuff to do".

Well, keep at it! remind your mom that you don't have to have a lot of wind to have a lot of fun, especially if there is another Sunfish on the lake at the same time!
