I thought these only came with the motor and ESC in the package? And they recommended using a 6S pack, I think their 6S2P 4200 or 4400 is a great pack, good price too.

I think with a little trimming, you can make quite a few more motors fit, as our friends "down under" have been doing. The "standard" Z50-600 would be be a good choice, as would an Orbit 30-12, both on a 10s setup in the 3300-3800 range, using two side-mounted 5s packs. I'd think also a Hacker A50-10S, and an Actro 24-4 Heli, would also work quite well. I had two massive 5s-4700 special packs that Charlie did, at the MWE in early May. While these were way too big and heavy, we strapped them to Danny Szabo's TRex 600 anyway, and put in an A50-10S. There is a video of Danny flying the bejesus out of this setup here. Now, imagine what he could've done if it was a pound lighter, with a 10s-3300 Evo setup...

I'd love to try the Z50-600 on this heli. Just have to wait for Gary to get some more in stock.

Gary does A50 really have problems with max RPM when ran with a Kontronik ESC?

Well I tried two 6 cell 3300mah fp evo packs up front, and it came out just a tad nose heavy, so I think two 5 cell 3700mah packs might be just fine up front since they weight 60-70 grams less... I use a 2100 mah receiver battery mounted under the "shelf" as far behind as I can get it...

I think another potential setup would use about a 1200kv motor, and 8s. I found these cells http://www.maxamps.com/index.html?lmd=38908.605289, their link for that page doesn't take you straight to the cells, I am talking about their 4 series pack of 16c 4000 mah cells. at 8s made up of two 4s 4000 mah packs the pack would weigh in at 730 grams compared to the stock 4400 which weighs 700 grams. I think these may prove to be a good choice with the right motor, the max watt output for the stock 4400 pack is about 1760, the max watts for 8s of those 4000 cells is about 1895

Thats a interesting idea.... Although i think the packs your suggesting are actually 12c packs, not 16c capible of about 50 amps continous. Unless im seeing the wrong packs.

I wonder how many amps less it would pull in compairison to the align 6s packs. I would assume in a 8s config the amp draw would be low enough not to damage the packs.
Any thoughts

Sounds great but I have not found a 1200kv motor in that size yet. Anyone know of such a motor? 45mm outside diamater is the biggest you want to go before removing material from the inside of the frame.

Cheers

There is a Z-30 motor that has a KV of 1100, said to be good for 2000watts. I have a couple, one is in the swift and the other in its box. I will have to go and measure it up.

43mm wide

Ive seen the Z30 go very well in a Logo 14 on 600mm blades. Not as well as the Z50 though.

you guys are right about the C rating, sorry, it does look like its rated at 12c continous. but I still say that an 8-10 series setup made up of 3300-4000 mah cells may be able to provide more consistant power and longer flight times

I just had the thought that the z-30 may fit straight in without frame mods.

It should, anything up to 45mm will fit with no mods. I am tempted to get one
