DS at Hood River

I took my Jw60 to Bald Butte (45.536N, 121.531W) in Hood River Oregon last week and did a few turns on the back side before crashing in the brush. The wind was 17-22mph from the West and the flying was great. I am convinced that the site is DS-able even though I could not keep it going for more than 3 turns because I am a beginner at Dynamic soaring, spoiled by perfect, treeless flying sites in southern California.

We also tried 3-corner rock, near Beacon Rock, WA and got a couple of turns there doing DS but we were in a cloud with visibility sometimes as low as 100ft so we didn't stay there long. Lost site of the plane twice though before it finished it's turn and came back into view. My opinion is that both sites are DS-able by someone with more skill.

Younger brothers are great. I still ended up climbing the tree though.

I have been told by Washington state fliers that there are few DS sites in western Washington because of too many trees.
Your picture speaks by itself and convinced me.

Are you familiar with central Washington DS sites around Ellensburg where mountains are bare and no trees? Isn't Beacon Rock close to Roslyn? I am planning to visit a home site there this summer. Please tell me more about the area.

Where is your homestead?
