Good question, I am wondering too! Maybe its a small eye? If so, the ones I buy don't have one.

It's a little hole where the metal grommet goes, It aides in secure mounting.

They're more common on bigger servos.

Unless I'm mistaken.

that sounds like the hard way to me. I just get them started in the gromment and use a pair of broad pliers to push them into place. You don't push the grommet out and the eyelet remains captive the whole time.

I can do this to 4 servos in about 5-10 minutes.

Servo grommet eyelet insertion

G'day all,

The small eyelets look a bit like tophats with the top removed, and are similar to those used on Hitec HS82 servos and several other types.
They are designed to prevent crushing the rubber mounting grommets, while still giving vibration damping.
The eyelets should be inserted with the 'hat-brim' on the underside of the grommet to make contact the servo mount, but has to be inserted after the grommet has been fitted on to the servo lug, which is the easy bit, or you won't be able to mount the grommet.
All the above most of you clue-ey blokes would already know.

However on some small servos inserting these eyelets into the grommets can be a real pain in the nether-end, especially into the mounting lug where the servo lead exits the servo case and gets in the way.

Easy fix - Use a sharp kebab stick, cut down to a convenient length. The eyelet is inserted ... don't jam it on tight ... the right way round on the pointy end and then just jab it into the grommet from the underside, giving the kebab stick a bit of a twist to release it from the eyelet which should then stay in the hole in the grommet ... all done.
Having dropped a few of these tiny eyelets on the workshop floor where they'd never be seen again, and ending up with eyelet-less grommets, this solution worked well.

Regards from Oz

Daffy

I use a metal kebab skewer on a string for my CL stooge. Works well... when it doesn't nose over and grind up the prop. Or when I don't wrap my ankles together in the string. That only happened once. I swear. I'm hungry.

Grosbeak... Yep that's they way I do it, but use an old soldering tool. Works GREAT, takes seconds to prep a servo.

Not sure if it was mentioned earlier in the thread (I may have even mentioned it) bit I use bamboo kebab skewers for pins of all sorts. IMO better then dowels as a hardwood dowel will snap, but the bamboo really resists this. Just drill the hole a little undersized, add a dab of glue, and push the pin in. Sands flush really easily.

I work in Pontiac, Michigan and there are a few small restaurants that serve Greek foods. Gyros are my all time favorite. Geeeeze, they are good!
