I'm a newbie and have just purchased a Baby Bee on Ebay. I cannot figure out how to put fuel in the tank. Am I really this dumb. Help!

To put fuel into the fuel tank, you have to use a syringe with the needle and insert it into one of the tubes at the side of the carburator needle.
I hope this help you and you can understand my poor english.

Nah, not dumb, just uninformed, and asking a question is not dumb. To the contrary, it is the path to wisdome.

The tank is the bulbous looking thing behind the cylinder. The needle valve on a babe bee is on top of the tank. There should be two small tubes sticking up on either side of the needle valve, OR, there is a small tube on one side of the needle valve and a tiny hole on the other (newer style tank), OR, there is a tube sticking out the top of the tank (filler tube) near the needle valve, and a similar tube (overflow tube) sticking out the bottom (Killer Bee, Golden Bee, Texaco and Black Widow versions of the Babe-Bee). If you have two tubes, squirt fuel into one and when the tank is full, the excess fuel squirts out the other. If you don't have any tubes sticking out of the tank, then either they got broken off and you need a new backplate ($$) or you don't have a babe-bee.

If you buy a "Cox Starting Kit" from Walmart maybe, it will have everything you need to fill and start the motor, including detailed instructions.

Or, do a google search for "sullivan fuel bulb". A fuel bulb is a syringe-like thingamajig that looks sort of like a turkey baster. It has a peice of fuel tubing on the end. You squeeze the air out and then dunk the tube into your fuel can. You suck the fuel into the bulb, connect the tube to the tank and squirt the fuel into the tank until it over flows as mentioned above. Voila!

First, thanks for taking the time and trouble to respond.

Now, allow me to explain my situation. I am just getting back into model building after being out of it for a long time and, for an engine, I purchased a Babe Bee .049 from a guy on Ebay. The engine was advertised as never having been used and that appears to be the case. It came in what was supposed to be the original box and that, too, appears to be the case. Also, this engine looks like other BB's that I have seen advertised. In other words, I have what I sincerely believe to be a BB. Now, the plot thickens. I see no way on earth that this engine can be fueled. The instructions on the bottom of the box state, "Fill tank with Cox blue fuel. Use filler tube on top of tank". That's all it says regarding fuel. Believe me, except for the needle valve, there is no tube of any kind on this engine, nor has there ever been a tube on this engine. If there was, I assure you I would find it. Common sense says there must be a way to insert fuel into this tank, otherwise it would never run, however I cannot imagine how it can be done. On the backplate there is an aperture slightly smaller than a pencil eraser and it houses a fine-mesh screen which is probably a vent but this cannot possibly be used for fueling purposes. For one thing, the location is all wrong.

The aperature in the center of the back plate is the carburetor.

On the newer BB's, the backplate is molded from glass filled nylon. There is just one fuel filler tube and it should be right next to the needle valve. The tube should be about 1/4" long, and about 3/32" in diameter. Right next to this tube there should be a small hole, pinhole size, this is the vent hole. Look closely at the area adjacent to the needle-valve. I suspect that either someone broke the fuel filler tube off, or you have a mis-machined backplate, in which case you will need to order a new one from Estes (new owner of Cox).

I have some other ideas, but I have to leave right now. I'll check back with you this afternoon. I can send you a copy of the engine's manual if you want.

Sounds like we need a picture of this one to know for sure what you're up against. Ctdahle is dead on describing my fueling tanks. I have had this engine for years. Even replaced the fuel tank a few times when I cracked the metal in a crash. Also made an additional large fuel tank to extend the run time (mini airboat and air car).
