Parts for micro helis are harder to manufacture because the tolerances must be tighter.

That's why micro helis usually aren't any cheaper than bigger helis.

I just bought a Raptor Titan. In total with necessary equipment it cost me about the same as both my Rexes + batteries and charger for them did a while back so how anyone can think a big heli isn't any more expensive than a Rex is still slightly unclear to me.

Sure I've spent some $s on upgrades but I can do that to the Titan too if I want to but I cannot fly it on $12,- blades, more like $ 100,-. The XL at least flew well "right out of the box".

A 600 would be something like $1100,- for the CF version with Futuba servos, a 401 and a decent receiver while an SE should come in around $ 800,-.

Sure on the heli itself there are no really big differnce if you compare the SE with the 600's but you need some more expensive equipment in the 600 because of size...

I compare the crash cost of my fully bling'ed Trex and that of my Swift heli. The cost of a crash is a little less on the swift (by a few bucks). On my swift, I never have to replace main gear. Servo gears have not broken any on my big heli. I keep changing servo gears on my trex. Big heli crashes less often also. Bad things about big helis are that it's hard to cary around every day (like bringing it to work to fly), higher upfront cost for battery / motor / ESC.

Think of everything that goes into a part... Design, testing, manufacuring, shipping, warehousing, marketing, packaging, and of course, raw materials.

The costs associated with those things for trex vs. trex 600 are all very similar, with the exception of raw materials. That being said I would expect trex 600 prices to be slightly higher or the same. Toshi's comment makes sense about the tighter tollerances on minis costing more. And you gotta figure Align is going to push the 600 spares prices as low as possible to try and get more people to buy the thing.

That's a big piece of carbon we're talking about. Just the material alone is worth some pennies.

There is also the aluminum frame which I heard is every bit as stiff as the carbon, but a lot cheaper.

Yeah it is $160 plus shipping worth of carbon, I still think that is a bit much for a stock frame. I can only hope the alum is alot cheaper, but holds up well.

I don't buy my stuff from Heliproz :-). Here in Sweden, and especially at my LHS, the Raptor parts are usually cheaper than the corresponding T-Rex parts. Try a mainshaft for $5, while the Rex one is closer to $10...
