Next I made up the motors & fans.I purchased a Redcon RB370 4100KV from BRC Models for testing on one duct to make sure I was in the performance ballpark before investing in the other three. All semed suitable with 10A 110W 12ozs Thrust on three cells. so I bought the other three.

Thanks Terry,

I see you mention 12 ozs from the microfan with the RB370 on 3S, but a total of 32 ozs, was that the installed thrust after ducting losses etc.

Cheers

Yes Ron it was only approx. thrust nose down on scales with one mot.I must measure it with four soon.I thought that half the weight in thrust & 50W/Lb would get it up.Could get a lot more on 4Cells but I wanted to underrun them as I wanted to use only one ESC & one flight pack to keep the weight down.
To make sure they would all run on only one Jaz80 ESC I progressivly connected each motor in parallel. No probs at 40A & all starting smoothly & progressive power right through the throttle range.
On the Maiden I flew 5 mins & only used half the 3200 Pack.

Note the servos & started markings wth black marker pen & computer generated decals.

Terry,

A question about forming depron. When you peel off the packing tape does it damage the surface of the depron at all? I thought that packing tape was very sticky stuff.

No Tony not at all, I must admit it did surprise me.I tried the brown parcel tape, gaffer tape & selotape all fine.

Heck! I'd have guessed 1/2oz. 1/2lb is 20% of the un-lightened airframe weight and must be about the same as the weight of your lipo pack!

It's a very impressive structure Terry. Is micropore that surgical tape stuff available at pharmacies? Presumably it sticks to the depron better than all the other tapes you tried (which peeled off without damaging the surface).

Cheers

Gordon,
Not quite as good as that as my pack weighs 1Lb. but it did help.
It is micropore from the chemist. It is white but does take paint, does not crack , sticks very well but can be peeled off without damage.

Dave, Just taken a few more pics to help.It is one elevon servo connected to the larger control surface & another wire link transmitting a proportional movement (For scale) to the smaller one .It just operates like a normal elevon delta with two servos.

I used just a strip of white gaffer tape at the lower wing joint. As I would only be stressing the wing joints in a positive manner this proved light & stopped any flexing of the joint

Note not noticeable on the pic with Bob holding it.

Terry - All I can say is Fantastic. I wish I had waited to build my B-58 until now, your skill, design and work would have been a giant help.

Outstanding,

Hurricane Larry

Darn I just may have to build another 58!

Thanks Larry, I do find building a help to the soul over the winter months.
I started this project in November, at the same time I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. building this helped me through three operations with another to follow next month. I also must thank my good friend & flying buddy Bob Partington for his encouragement & dragging me out flying when i just wanted to stay in & feel sorry for myself.

More markings & decals & filler to shape the intakes.

Time to cover remaining fuselage bottom & fit preformed thrust tube covers.(Servo leads fed through first)

C of G had worked out perfectly with one 6" square removeable hatch required to get at receiver E.S.C. & install flight pack.
