Any advice for a heli newbie with a smartech areohawk?

Just picked a smartech areohawk and have never flown a real heli before. I am looking for words of wisdom on things to look out for, common mistakes to avoid, simple mods for durability etc. Not really looking for advice on which model I should have bought as my budget for this is next to nill, too many irons in the fire at this point. Thanks in advance for your help and guidance.

Have you read the EHBG at

Practice on a Heli simulator - if you can get one

Lots of people recommend
RADD'S SCHOOL OF ROTARY FLIGHT

check the motor pinion >> main gear mesh

make sure that there is no vertical movement of the main gear - it can move up/down & lose contact with pinion
The fix for this is to fit a shaft collar
(or a piece of tubing beneath the swashplate)

Make sure that the main shaft is straight - gently rotate the main gear (by hand) check to see if the top of the rotor head has any wobble

Make sure that the main blades are balanced

Make sure that the flybar paddles are evenly spaced

Adjust battery so that (front-back) Heli centre of gravity is OK

Some people have had to balance the tail blade

make sure that all the rotor head components swivel/rock smoothly with no binding - parts #25 & #29 should rock easily

SMaric, thanks, that is exactly the kind of info I was looking for and plenty to start with I suppose. I have flown a contra rotating little eBay heli, forget the name but it wasn't the BladeRunner, it was a knock off. handled that fine but found it too fragile and all it wanted to do was hover. I'm looking forward to exploring more advanced flying with FP before I make the investment into a CP model.
