a buddy of mine gave this too me and said it didn't work, well I tried it and it seems to be ok, I just don't know what it is. I assume it is a Castle Creations since the battery leads are marked "castle creations 13 guage". is there anyway to be sure what it is?

Im guessing its an e-flight because of the lower quality transistors and the motor connecters being soldered directly to the ESC with no wire.

Looks like an EFlite to me too, I've heard that they are made by Castle which would account for the wires.

Yep, Eflite esc. I have a couple of these. Yes they are cheaper than Castle Creations. I've never had a problem yet from them.

well, I run a couple of eflite's and haven't had a prob yet...but wonder if its a 20 or 40 amp, or how I could tell...btw, thanks for the help guys.

40 amp:
Dimensions (WxLxH): 50mm (2 in) x 26mm (1 in) x 10mm (.4 in)
Weight: 20 g (.7 oz)

20 amp:
Dimensions (WxLxH): 36mm (1.4 in) x 24mm (.95 in) x 9mm (.37 in)
Weight: 14 g (.5 oz)

Counting the number of FET's should work too, the 12 transistors in your second pic. If your other EFlites have 12 also it should be the same amps.

I took a pic of the "unknown" esc and my eflite 20 amp esc and they are definitely not the same. Also, the end that plugs into the Rx is different. To clarify, the twisted cable is off the unknown ESC. Not only are the wire colors different, but the plug is different also.

My best guess is a 40A EFlite. Schulze also puts the motor connectors on the board, but their boards are usually orange!

Note that the Castle wiring has been spliced on - you can see the joints/heatshrink in a couple of the pictures. That odd Rx lead could well have been retrofit by whoever took off the heatshrink as well......

Added: I just checked a EFlite 40 I have on hand and the components, especially the two large capacitors on one side of the board, are exactly as shown in the first two pictures. I'm just about positive you have an EFlite 40 that someone's messed around with the wiring on.
