There are some pics of my Rafale during the build in this thread.

You can see the fuse is forcing the wing into a hollow foil shape.

I think im gonna cover the bottom, I was never a fan of hollow wings. I do see what you mean though... Im also gonna try to make a full fuse.

In that case, you might consider building the fabulous Rafale from GGRN:

Hi guys,

Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions. I decide to split the wing planform about 4" or so from the trailing edge and epoxy it back together with a 5MM CF tube as a spar. I also made the back part of the fuse horizontal a separate part. This way, I could use the sheet of FFF more efficiently.

I will try to take and post pix this weekend.

Regards,
Adam

Couldn't stand it anymore so Im posting. Digi camera has gone in for servicing pics and vids when I get it back in the next few weeks.

I built a 20" powered by a FC 28-05, 4.75x4.75 APC-E & 2s 600ma pack, or some very old nearly dead 3s 800 packs.
Also built a 40" with a FC 28-12, 7x6 APC-E using the 3s 2100 packs I fly my heli's on.

Stock plane has a rolled leading edge and from videos appears to fly very well with it. I went a different route and put a 40% KFm4 airfoil on both. Both of mine fly EXTREMELY well. They are on rails at all times at all speeds. Prop-er has the control surface proportions dead on. There is no hunting at any speed.

I have no idea why people are not building this plane!? Has better looks than all the plate pushers flying around without much more work involved. Takes longer to cut out the tabbed construction (not with a serrated bread knife), but goes together very quickly. Afew small pinch clamps from Harbor Frieght (as shown) makes using all the foaming poly glues much easier to deal with!

Anyway, pics and videos when I can get them. Great planes that go well with with a hobbycity cheapness! Design more!

I'm stalled on cutting my 40". A bunch of gravity induced plane repairs got in the way. I'm hoping to get going on it again this weekend.

Rafale with EDF motor?

Hi Guys

I've been looking at the 40" for some time now. Well I've started with it last night. My question, has anyone thought of making this a EDF and not a pusher?
I'll change the plan to accommodate it, hope you don't mind Proper.

I'll post some build pic’s once I get all the parts cut out.
Hoping this will work out as well as I thinks.

Don't mind at all! In fact, I've tried to accomodate a small EDF into my 20" Rafale, but it was too cramped.

Edf

Now I just need to find a pair of EDF's to suit this plane!

My 40" ready for maiden!

Hi

I've just finished my 40" Rafale.

The bottom "skins" are 6mm to wide, so I had to trim that.

I've dropped the EDF idea for now, so this one is a pusher prop.

A monster!!! Thanks for the pic.

I stiffened my vert. tail with a carbon rod.
This jet takes a nose landing pretty bad. Nose crumples up like it's made from paper. The nose on my 20" will be stiffened with two carbon rods along the fuse.

I'm sorry about the bottom skins. I've had the plans of the 20" changed since I noticed the same during my build. But I guess I've forgotten to change the 40"plans...

Good luck on the maiden.

I'll maiden this one "as is".

I'll either rebuild or just add the supports where needed.
Usually my first attempt at an airy is not my best, so time will tell. I'll re-cut my templates before attempting it again.

Thanks again.

Maiden

Ok, I see what you meant with the nose being soft. 830mm for cg is still way tail heavy! I'll work it out with a formula and try again (will fix the nose first).

I have calculated the CG before. It's kinda hard to determine the influence of the canards and profile fuselage. I light toss should tell you enough. We're aiming for a floaty glide.

Did the tail heavy flying occur with or without power? I thorougly checked the direction of the prop wash before flight. Just put your hand directly in line behind the fuselage. That's where the prop wash should be.

For starters you can hold on to the standard 2° up and 2° left. (for pushers, seen from behind)
