Flying?
Hi Albert!
Well, yes we should go to fly something again soon. Maybe next weekend would be good to go to the field? At least not yet too much activity for next weekend ![]() Ilkka |

Hi Illka,
Good to hear from you. Forecast for this weekend is rain with chances of what might be the first snowfall of the winter. I have nothing new to fly but I am eager to see your new plane from the exhibition. Last time I flew with Chen Bin, he had a brand new Waco from Kanke USA. He had pictures posted somewhere. Let see how it goes this weekend and we'll keep in touch ![]() Cheers, Albert |

Dear RC Flyers in Beijing Area
Hi all,
my name is Rolf, currently living in Germany but looking forward to an approx 4 Years posting in Beijing as Aircraft Engineer. I've been flying RC Models since almost 30 Years, currently mostly electric powered gliders from slow thermal "creepers" to a hotliner (that sometimes ruin your nerves though ).I'm really happy to have found this forum because I would have missed a very urgent part of my hobby if there would be no way to RC-fly in China !! In preperation, I'd just like to post some questions to you guys as the "local professionals" before my trip: I've got a 35 MhZ Multiplex Set (Channel 73). Is there a special permit required to operate 35 MhZ RC in China ? I've got an international Insurance for RC Sports by the German Modelflyer's Community. Is there any additional insurances / formalities to be completed before "taking off" in China ? would be very happy for any hints I can receive from your side, thanks & happy new year to you all......... We welcome to have you as an additional member of our very informal RC flyers group here in Beijing. The guy that actually started this thread is from Finland and he uses 35Mhz transmitters and there is no need for a permit to operate, though there are customs formalities for bringing rc gear to China. I started rc flying here in Beijing, so I am trained in mode1 (right throttle stick) and we use 72Mhz, but 40, 36, and 35 mhz are also available here. I personally fly electric as well as glow. We have a couple of flying sites that we use and we post them in Google earth for easy tracking and viewing. If you are planning to live close to the airport then you will have access to wide open spaces to fly your gliders. So, I hope to see you soon here in Beijing. Leave a PM if you want to know more about rc flying in Beijing. Cheers, Albert

Hi Albert,
thanks for your quick reply, good to know I can meet some fellow RC flyers in Beijing. My posting will most probably start between March and April 07, will try to my RC stuff along but will look for a plane locally ('cause most models are destroyed during transport..:-)) I also fly mode 1 on my tx (throttle / aileron right and elevator / rudder left). By checking the forum entries, the coordinates in Google Earth you share are indeed very helpful - brilliant idea !! Once I get to know where our housing will be I'll come back to you and the forum to discuss more details...... The "wide open spaces" you quote in your message are very rare here in Germany. Found some slopes for hang gliding in my area for easterly and westerly winds, but lots of wineyards around, so you must be sure not to go beyond the ridge because there's no landing space at all (good reason to have the electric "thermal upwinds" in the glider :-). One more good thing about the wide open spaces surely is that no one may feel annoyed by the sound ("music") a flying model creates. In good old Germany there are already protests of environmental protection groups, even if you fly electric powered gliders only. Thanks again for contacting me back, looking forward to be meeting you these days, cheers, Rolf |

Slopes
Hi Rolf,
Great to hear from you as well and wellcome to Beijing eventually. It's been quite slow regarding the flying during the winter at least from my part as the local "fog" is so dense in winter time due to coal heating etc. So not many good days for just about any flying, but I hope it gets better again by the time you are arriving here. What I know is that official frequencies are 40 and 72MHz and my 35MHz set is not so allowed. Local shops are selling only official one's but you can order other frequencies at least from himodel web-shop. I've been also interestead in slope gliders always and done that quite many times back in Finland, but haven't had a chance to do that over here yet. Have one flying wing slope plane with me though, but it's just pair of foam wing halves still after 1,5 years of storaging Have been looking also local brand fiber-glider, 2 or 3 meters but have not made decision yet. So, let's try to find some good sloping places in coming summertime. There's definetely good hills for that in here and the dream is to do that on top of Great Wall one day Here's one pic of last time we went flying about month ago and giving some airtime to Juhani with Albert's old Venus. Venus is still flying well, but needs desperately maintenance. Maybe we should give it some time in shop before it's too late... Ilkka |

New in Beijing
Hi all,
I'm new in Beijing (from Sweden) and I have always wanted to try to fly an RC helicopter. And I think this could be a good opportunity since there are many boring evenings in the hotel room (maybe I should start with a simulator to avoid trashing the room totally...) to spend on "something useful"... So, does anyone know a good place in Beijing to by a Helicopter? |

Hi Ilkka,
the weather isn't nice for flying in Germany as well these days, no problems with fog though but we've recently had way too warm temps for January coming along with stormy winds (not too bad for slopeflying) - but the rest is a mess; rain or drizzle - lots of so all the small farmroads uphill are hopelessly muddy and slippery.... Been to a Beijing hikers netpage lately and saw some photographs of the mountain area close to Beijing, the pics looked promising, very steep hills and even some space to land on top (at least with both ailerons full up as airbrakes), wonder if there'd be a way to go there by car.... On the other hand, with the E-drive, one can even fly gliders in locations closer to town -- just for the beginning at least..... Thanks for the additional info on RC frequencies allowed in China, is it better to buy a 40 MhZ or a 72 MhZ set locally in Beijing, I mean seen from the interferences with other radio transmitters ? Anyway, let's see when we can meet after my arrival in Beijing, should be a matter of few weeks until final information about my posting is available. Looking forward to be meeting you then Cheers, Rolf |

Just returned from Beijing
Hi Ilkka and Albert,
have just been on a short trip to Beijing last week to see my new assignment at Ameco. Didn't have much time to look around except Saturday when we drove to the Great Wall. Seems like lots of open spaces between Beijing and there. Anyway will most probably arrive back approx end of April for 3 Years at least. Looking forward to be staying in contact with you and meeting you then... Cheers, Rolf |

Greetings from Finland...
Hi guys,
Just came back from Finland, had a last chance to fly my Tiger Moth last weekend with skis as spring is about month early there and snow is melting away rapidly... Are we getting ready to start flying for this year in Beijing as well? Ilkka Last edited by illi; Mar 28, 2007 at 02:46 AM. |

Hi Ilkka
Nice Pics from Finland, quite a bit of snow around there....but looks like great flying with ski's fitted.
In Southwest Germany we've just had a full breakthrough of Spring, daytime temps up to 23 Deg C but can't go flying as half of the stuff is already packed for Beijing. I'll arrive there on May 04 latest and then have to go through all the formalities inclding Chinese Drivers License and a Car. Next after this will be a visit in a RC model shop to get myself something to fly. I'll be living in Shunyi District, Ming Du Yuan, close to Capital Airport. Looking forward to be meeting you these days. cheers & best regards, Rolf |
