Any proud owners of the Paragon glider?

I have heard a lot about this traditional balsa beauty. Wish I had the space to build one. (two 2M already )

Is there a source for Paragon pictures or a build thread for the Paragon or other old fashioned but still available sail planes? Any idea who supplies these kits outside the US?

Dont know if there is a supplier outside the US, but it still is available here. If you can't order one direct, I will be happy to work with you to get you one. I have had two in my illustrious R/C sailplane career, and loved them both. If you have any specific questions about the Paragon, I'll try to answer (correctly) In my opinion, you just cannot go wrong with this sailplane. And as for size, when broken down, it fit nicely inside my wife's Nissan Sentra on the way to Visalia last year.

Paragons

Right now I have 3 of the fine old birds. I fly one regularly that has been slightly modified to reduce the fuselage width, now the size of 2 smaller servos. Another of Ed Slobod's designs, Gemini, is also a great bird and can be modified by stretching the fuse a few inches to about 60 overall and equipping with 130+ inch wings using a 4233 airfoil that really perks it up some.

If you search rcgroups, I think "SoarNeck" out of Alberta, Canada had a 3 page or so discussion of his Winch Proof Paragon with some building photos on here at one time.

Good Luck, they fly great in light air but can be difficult when the wind is up, penetration isn't the best but can be improved with ballast.

Every time you launch your Paragon yell=== PARAGON'S FOREVER

I am on my second in 20 years (about), the first made it through LSF level 4 and the second is being saved for my 8 hour slope flight (only thing left for LV). I fly it in woodie contests and Nostalgia anytime.

Still one of my favorite planes and I fly a lot of stuff.

What a beauty LVSoaring - now I am having serious regrets about going for a Gentle Lady (70% complete) - but for me space for wings (and even fuselage) in my very very small 2 seater car was a big issue.

Built one shortly after the build article appeared in the Jan. 76 RCM magazine. Excellent kit easy build, and a great flier. Always wanted to try flying it at night like the article showed. Would love to get my hands on another kit. Joe

My Paragon (two sets of wings and several mods along the way) took me to Level V (#46) including contest wins, 2 hr thermal & 8hr slope (G&R w/ Sagitta XC). Best mods were raised all-moving stab (no more landing breakage) & airfoil mod (added "Phillips entry" on bottom, big improvement in speed range). Good Lift!

Re, wing section length, I dont remember exactly, but I would guess between 48 and 60 inches.

Hi All,

I built mine per the RCM plans in 1979. Equipped with a Cox/Sanwa 3 channel but only rudder and elevator.

Wing joiner failed during my learning to winch launch. Major rebuild, but all wood save for a carbon fibre splice reinforcement on the rebuilt wing. That's silkspan and dope on the wings NOT plastic. Still have it. Ought to go fly it soon!
