Tomcat video now ready to view

Go to :
www.silentflightonline.com
Search the image base for F-14 to download.
Although three are 3 videos up there, only the middle one works.

Matt.
Works best with Real Player

Video

Matt,

I downloaded it last night, can't be viewed in Windows Media player you get the "Format is not supported" error. I can play it back in RealOne Player, there is only 32 seconds of video, is this all, or is there meant to be more?

Cheers

Dale

I had the same problem....Windows media player couldn't play it, but Real-One player could.

Super video!! Wow! It looks like it jumps off the ground in no-time at all.

Awesome!

Sorry, I tried it in Media Player; no go. Posted a comment here about using an earlier version mpeg. Then tried saving it to my hard drive and viewing it in Real. When it worked okay I deleted my comment.

Short runway. Good thing it took off. Ever seen what corn does to models?

Daren
p.s. Congrats Matt. Nice feeling when all of your hard work comes to fruitation, huh?

Unfortunately, there is only 32 seconds on that video,my cameraman lost it just after the video here ends. Was a lot of sky to see,but no model!

I was worried about the corn, but had been waiting so long for the right weather conditions,I couldn't wait anymore!

She actually lifted off about 10 feet from the corn, but from my viewpoint,it looked so much closer!
I'm not worried about it taking off anymore,as it can cope with relatively short distances. What I love about EDF is the higher acceleration over I.C. D.F. models.I.C. models seem to take ages to start moving-not with EDF they don't!
The hard work definitely pays off,the feeling of accomplishment is indescribable-not many people get to experience that,do they?

So now everyone knows it works!

Looks great Matt! Glad it worked on SFO. Can't wait to see more turnin' and burnin' What would you estimate your level flight speed was during that flight?

This is true with most IC DF models. When you have a lightly built model which has a goodly amount of power, the acceleration can be just as brisk. Dan's YA A-4 (K&B 82, Dynamax fan; 11.5 lbs.) accelerates like a turbine.

In some cases, their tailpipes are necked down for optimum top end speeds which of course would mean slower initial acceleration. This the case with my BVM P-80. Although it does accelerate like you describe, it also tops out at about 130 mph in level flight!

The F-14 with my set up,covers a lot of sky, very quickly at minimum sweep,at max. sweep,I would guesstimate it would be a lot faster.
Most of the flight on video was at less than 1/2 power a lot of the time, after I trimmed the elevator 2-3 clicks down, she really poured on the speed.
I still can't get over the handling, really perfect.
May get to the field early tomorrow for test #2.Hopefully more video.
I started building Tomcat #2 already,so much faster with a kit!

I'm really pleased you all enjoyed the video.

Oh,no!

Bad news guys-well,worse for me really.
Took the Tomcat to the field this morning, whist waiting for my friend to arrive with the video camera.
I got fed up withwaiting, and conditions were perfect, with the wind right down our runway.
So,I thought I'd fly now,and then later.
The model took off, climbed out, really flying well, turned back,as it was passing overhead, about 100' or so,I experienced major radio interference,I tried to fight it,was getting panicky now,the model ploughed into the ground, and disintegrated the fuse on impact

Turns out,a guy was flying a glider on the slope opposite, about 1/2 mile away.
By the time I had collected the pieces,I saw him flying over there.I went over in my car,but he was gone by then.
I am really really upset,as I was just getting to explore the flying characteristics, then **** happens.

Amazingly, both fins, both wings,1 stab. survived the impact intact!
1 fan was damaged, the other ok.
Both ESC's were ok,and the motors.
Battery packs were broken, but all cells checked out fine on my meter,so will need re soldering.
Tail nozzles can be used again on my next model (I had started building)
So,really, main damage was confined to the entire fuse, most everything else was mostly ok.
I will work hard to get the next model up and running,at least I won't have to rebuild the wings, fins and 1 stab again. The Nomex pivot plates and associated linkages were ok too,so will use those units again too.
A sad day indeed.................
I'll be back!

Oh Man...What a Bummer All that work). Hope you meet up with that glider guy some day and give him a piece of your mind.

The bad part of Big EDFs is when a 12+ pound plane meets the ground there IS Damage. No way to avoid it like you can with a light park flyer.

Good luck on getting the next one up and running.
