Anyone get and read the latest sloping column in the AMA mag?

Yeh I read it, seemed fine to me. I like reading about slope soaring even if us Coloradoians are not in the mag. Yet!.

Hey, it was an honest to goodness magazine article dedicated to Slope Combat. I just sat there astonished and read it.

I'd love to fly slope; always enjoyed thermal flying. However, down here in SE texas, there are no hills. We do the Soap
Box Derby on a highway overpass......

Yeah, it was all about combat, which was nice.

But do you agree with the points made? Plane choice I'd have to disagree with (that whole heavier thing). And in general it sounds like 'furball' combat.

(but that's has nothing to do with it, it didn't mention 47 states )...

Did you by chance see the article in the AMA mag like 3 years ago on this? It was when the AMA accepted slope combat. Has anyone ever seen the footage of combat in the frist(I think 98-99) RCA video? There was no "furball" combat, it was all low flying 8's.

I think the furball thing came later. Made it harder having to set up the oppentent. The video is Radio Carbo Art-Endless Lift 2 2001. I have a trashed copy that my son destoryed(sorry slopenut, I owe you a new copy). Back then just having 6 planes in the air was a big feat. It really does look nicer having 20+.
If you watch the vid you'll see 4 DAW's flying low 8's for the whole thing. The article in AMA back in '04 I think(Id copy it but I cant find the mag's) discribes the "low flying aircraft being the aggresive pilots, they are the enemys. And your competion."

I liked the idea of having a "co-pilot" to do the walk-of-shame and launch your plane. Hereabouts we do it ourselves.

I did once, My wife went with me when I was in a wheel chair with a cast on my ankle. She said she would not do it again, though, and told me I had to wait till I healed up and could retrieve my own plane. LOL
