I was flying my trex today with my dx6 radio. About half way through the flight I come down to about 20ft. All the sudden, the heli just starts turning to the right. About 10 ft from the ground I regain control for a split second. The it starts turning again, full throttle in the concrete.

I destroyed my 75$ tp lipos, mavarik carbon blades, broke 2 servos, broke my brand new canopy and a couple of parts. Luckly, it was fairly low, so airframe damage is not too bad.


I used:

3 hs55's
1 hs81
1 gy401
1 ar6000 spektrum rx
1 eflite esc
1 tp 2100 3s
1 astroflight 803t

1 dx6 tx

I have no idea what happened. all my servos seem to work, esc works..ect..

The dx6 I have used for about 2 months with many flights on it. I never had any problems on my planes, or the trex. Besides, the trex was only 20ft awy from me when it happened.

The servo wiring seems fine. I have tryed wiggling every thing in every direction and they work. I will open them up later. One of them has a repaired wire.

The last thing it could be is a bec failure, who knows. The velcro on the esc is on the side of the bec, not on FETs, so maybe.


Please tell me if I am missing something obvious.

don't know, but I'd examine the compatibility of the 401 and the HS-81. I've used 81s with 240s and the work well, but a 401 may be able to over drive the 81, especially if it is in digital mode.

Well, you might check out the failsafe positions on the DX6. I'm not 100% positive on it's opperation though, as I know that there are two versions of the Rx with differing failsafe behavior.
Now there have been issues of the antennas coming loose from the board as well, and it not being super obvious from inspection. Perhaps some vibe/movement in the heli caused the antenna to move away, going into lockout/failsafe and causing the crash?
Maybe try a new RX? I know the Robot or BR version is supposed to have programable FS positions on all channels, but I don't know as any FS position would save you. But making the heli go to lockout isn't good, and might cause what you are seeing.

The 401 would fry the HS81 right away if it were in digital mode wouldn't it?

not sure about that,, i been using hs81 for long time.. work like a charm.. but it not recommend it ds mode.. i am sure if it will fried right away..

the problem above... look like you got belt slip lose, check the belt,, both the front and rear tail pulley . hold the tail blade while turnning the main blade by hand... see if the tail turnning or loose. i got same problem due to the tail pulley loose not hold in tail shaft.

That's what I said.

Perhaps your tail hub came loose.

Well, by turning I ment that the ROLL axis was turning. The tail was rock soild.
I fact the entire heli (except the rotor head) is in good shape. It landed straight down, right on my 75$ lipo...

Also, the the frame is stock, stock tail, but almost fully metal head. So no carbon fiber causing interference.
