RiteWing Mini Demon Project - Quest for Ballistic / Clean Handling Mini Wing!

Just wanted to share a quick update on a project that Chris and I will be working on together in the near future. After working with Chris and buying a Demon from him recently and having such a good outcome, I approached Chris with an idea for a power system on a Mini Demon, to see if he wanted to build a wing for it. Here's an overview of the power system:

Motor: Razor 400
ESC: CC25
Pack: TP1320-3S Pro Lite
Prop: Graupner CAM 100X80mm

Bench testing of this setup shows 12.5 oz thrust, and 160 watts of power. If we can keep the wing AUW around 8-9 oz, the watts/lb and vertical performance should be killer, and hoping for speeds of about 100 level and 110+ in a moderate dive.

The main goal is to achieve a wing that performs and tracks as well as Chris's high-powered Demon full-size wings, without the usual nervous handling that super-fast mini wings tend to have.

More to follow from either Chris or myself as this unfolds, regardless of the outcome...

The attached file shows the bench test performance of the power system in terms of thrust vs. input current, while stepping throttle position from 0-100% in 10% increments.

Best Regards,

Mike Hoffmeister

I am planning to use one of the new Castle Berg 4l receivers in this wing. Can any of you comment on your experience with the new 4l?

Thanks,

Mike H.

will this be a project for a product release, or will it be something that anyone can build (ie plans release including airfoil info, dimentions, etc)?

Chris has already been selling the Mini Demon - this is an experiment to see how it does with a very high-powered motor system on it.

CK - any comments?? :-)

CK told me the battery bay will be cut clean through the wing in the fat section of the airfoil near the nose, and 2mm colorplast will be used to create the top and bottom walls of the battery bay. One fixed and one hinged for access.

We have a couple 30" demons out right now in test. I have the 24" cut and ready for build and will be cutting a 26" also for test. Cris and myself want to have a 20MM set up that will give the Demon feel and speed in a more ecomonical package.
