how hot is too hot for esc and motor

Hi all,
I bought this cheapo motor on ebay form xmseller, seemed like a pretty good deal 30 bucks or so labeled as a 3500 kv.
I am running a CC45 with the same settings I had on my corona with a mega 16-15-3 can't quite remember the exact settings ,but using those recommended by the "gurus" on this board so I really do trust them.
I have a jet ranger shell and running an apex 15c 2200 3s lipo.
After a 5 minute hover/ flight I pulled the nose off and measured the ecs at 150 and the motor at 185. This seemed pretty hot to me, ambient was about 77 F. I dont really care if I fry this motor but can this cheapo motor be breaking my esc? When I ran the mega 16-15-3 with the same battery and esc it would get to about 180 with no body on, but I never did measure the ecs temp with the mega. I read the megas get naturally hot so it didn't really bother me. Any other cooler running motors out there? I did check my gear mesh and tail belt tension and both are not too tight.
Oh I am running an align head sink on both, and have cut some cooling holes in the bottom of the Jet ranger.
any input appreciated.
Thanks!

The motor is getting too hot, maybe lower the pinion a tooth or 2 if possible. The 16-15-3 is 3000 kv so you are probably having heat from too tall gearing.

The CC45 is comfortably warm. Cooler is better.

ok, but I'm already running the 11 tooth pinion, where do I get a smaller pinion, or any other cooler motors out there?
Thanks!

I just ran my ARK with an APEX 2200, CC35, and an AON motor last night and the motor temp was around 120 +/- depending on where I point the temp gun. The battery was mid 90s and if I remember correctly my ESC was was around that temp also. I was mainly hovering trying to adjust everything after rebuilding the head.

your temp readings on motor and ESC seem too high. The temp on my trex with JGF 450 or align 430L motor is around 110-130 (with 450TH I pointed the temp meter at the coil.) with heavy sport flying.

A bad motor could fry and could kill your ESC.
