So what's the cheap setup from HObbyCity for this plane? (motor/prop)
I have this motor laying around.. too big eh?

Also, are all the "Maxi Sift" versions the same with the exception of the color?

It is a little bit "chubby", but in the first few posts of this thread, people were recommending an AXI motor of about that weight, so it may work well if you can get it to balance out.

Yeah, there's no difference in the kits, other than the paint job.

IMO, any motor that weighs from 50 to 80ish grams, at about 1100Kv should be OK.
And any cheap ESC that could easily handle the estimated current draw, I'm using a 40 A Mystery ESC, but it's only drawing less than 25 A in the air.
High C rated lipos, of about 2200 mah upwards (my cheap 15 C batteries get puffy and hot when pushed hard).
Standard servos, although I'm finding my metal geared ones make too much noise when I'm in stealth mode.

As for the cheap Hobby City gear, I don't know, I don't deal with them anymore (it's a long and boring story).

Yeah, since the largest lipos I have are Mystery 2200mAh 3s, not sure I could get it balanced out with that larger motor..

If you have 2 similar packs around 1500~1800 you can run the both in parallel and get the weight you need. Or, go try some of the Rhino packs I mentioned on the last show

That's good to know, I've never been brave enough to test their range.

Just to slide off topic for a second, I guess the "Slope Bug" bit me hard yesterday.
I just pressed the button on one of these.

Ok, you suck!! I so wish I had a place to slope!! You're lucky man, and before long I see a big 3 meter glider in your hangar. I really want to give sloping a try, but I live in the flat lands of Central NC.

Enjoy it man, that is a pretty cool looking aircraft you have there.

That is SWEET!! What is it? I wonder if a motor could be added for us folks who are "slope-deprived".

Thanks, yes I suck.

Good luck Skid_Slide, I'm sure you'll love it.

It's a Wowing Booby, it looks small, but it's actually got a 4 foot wing span, and it's FAST.

Never heard of anyone fitting a motor, but that's a cool idea.
The mid section at the back is actually a dedicated elevator, so a pusher can't be done. But with a motor in the front, the ..umm...protrusions would protect the prop.
I have seen a pictue of one fitted with a hook, for winch or bungie launches, so flat land thermalling is possible, but that's a bit outside its design parameters..

I got to see a Wowings Skua doing its thing on the slopes, and fell in lust. As I was about to order a Skua from the web site, I glanced across and saw a picture of a Booby.

So I assume my $3 9g servos are not going to handle this one.. DANGIT!

Anybody want to link me some hobbycity motor and servos?
I already have 2200 3s lipos, berg4, CC25.
That fatty motor I have is what is equal to the Axi they where recommending.. but if I could get lighter.. that's good. (really I should find out how many amps I'll need to push her around first)

THanks~~

Without knowing what you want your Maxi to do, it's hard to recommend stuff....but that's never stopped me before, so;

OK brand, cheap, good weight, but its Kv rating's a bit low, but if you fiddle with the prop pitch you may get a good result. The hobby city reviews suggest you may get above 1:1 thrust ratio if you build it light.

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._23A_Outrunner

Turnigy 2217 16turn 1050kv 23A Outrunner $19.79
Spec.
Kv: 1050rpm/v
Operating Current: 6A ~ 18A
Peak Current: 18A
Suggested prop: 10x6.0 E-prop
Suggested Battery: 1700~2200mAh 3S1P
Weight: 71g
Dimensions: 27.6 x 36mm
Shaft Size: 3.175mm

.................................................. ...............
This looks better

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...r_(Eq_AXi_2808)

TR 35-30C 1100kv Brushless Outrunner (Eq AXi 2808) $23.70
TURNIGY AerodriveXp

Model: TR35-30C
Input Voltage : 7.4V~11.1V (2~3S Li-po)
KV : 1100 rpm/V within 10%
Max. efficiency current : 10~15A
Dimentions : 35mm X 30mm / 1.38in X 1.18in
Shaft diameter : 4mm / 0.16in
Weight : 77g / 2.72oz
Number of poles/magnets : 14
Recommended model weight : 600~1300g / 21~45oz
Power equivalent : .12,2stroke
Stator Dimentions: 28-08
.................................................. ...............

This could be good, the specs/buyer reviews don't include a lot of information, but I've always felt my Maxis needed a slightly higher Kv.

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...trunner_1200kv

Turnigy2836 brushless Outrunner 1200kv $17.57

Dimension:28mm x 37mm, 55mm(with shaft)
Weight: 74g (kv1200) (not including connectors)
Diameter of shaft:F4.0mm
Length of front shaft:F19mm
Lamination thickness: .2mm
Magnet type: 45SH

Max performance;
Voltage: 3-4S Lipoly
Prop: APC9x6
Thrust: 1100g
Power: 340W

And I'm spent....

PS
I didn't look at the AXIs, because I know how cheap you are.

I want one of these, but $800.00 is a bit much.

Yeah, you say that now,
But once you've owned it for awhile, one day, you'll find yourself kicking back, watching it thermal effortlessly up near the clouds, and you'll realise that this is one of your favourite toys.

I'd throw a 10x5 E prop on to start with, this is what someone else got with your motor;

Quote:
Measured data with Eagletree 3 on 2100 mAh 3s and APC 10*5:
10.5 V, 19 A, around 200 W input and 1000 g thrust
Just one thing to keep in mind, depending on your prop choice, it is possible to draw over 30 A with this motor - that's more than your ESC can handle.
