Help!
I need a Slowstick camera mount for a nikon 3700/7900

Man, I should have thought about this when Askman offered to ship my shopping to me from the states.

I have finally decided to take my slowstick with me to africa (next monday!) but I have a problem (that I should have thought about sooner). My existing mount I have leaves the camera upside down, which is fine for when I am near a computer (I can rotate them through 180 degrees) but not whilst I am travelling.
Does anyone in the UK either have or know where I can get (quickly) a slowstick camera mount for either my nikon 3700 or 7900.

If anyone has an Askman mount or similar that they want to sell/donate/swap let me know.

I know it is a long shot!

Thanks anyway,
MNG.

If I'm not mistaken the 3700 (like many of todays digicams) has on-board image rotation capabilities.

Video schmideo MNG, its all too wobbly from a stick anyway ! we need those loverly and contemplative still images of the continent to drool over not a low res wobble fest.

Yes, but I want to continue my Silly series...even in Africa. I want to do one ala Mark Jayne but instead of a van, picture me on the back of a safari vehicle flying through the wildlife sancturies!!!

How about on a unicycle following the plane............you go out of the frame, then back with the plane following you!

Nice idea MNG. I was shooting a TVC in Etosha the year before last, did you know that in the sanctuarys you are not allowed out of your car or off the formed road......you gonna be mad when you crash your stick in a bush 10m off the track !!!

Just need a piece of aluminium or something similer zip ties, velcro or tape, and a short bolt to screw into the camera.

Bend into a Z shape and tape, or zip tie one end to the shaft and the other to the camera.. May not work but I have a similer setup for my slow stick.

Just be creative, I haven't been to South Africa since 2001 but you should be able to put something together to get the job done.

Booma, yes I realise that in some parks you can leave your vehicle, but luckily some you can (if you are mad enough!). Maybe I could just tie the stick to a really long piece of string!!
Seriously, I was planning to work with the rangers and try and get them onboard before I venture out flying....hopefully that will give me the best chance to retrieve lost planes....the best bet, though, is not to loose them in the first place.
I loved Etosha, I spent a week there in '96 as part of a tour in which I escorted a group of photographers around the southern part of Africa. We were in Namibia for the wildflower season...therefore a photographers DREAM!!

MNG,
If you could get your SS down to me on the coast I could make up a mount for it.
I know time is running out for you but thought Id offer.

Good luck with that....there is certainly potential for some amazing images to come from those areas.....we were travelling with the head ranger, we all got on well and he cut us a fair bit of slack in terms of getting the shots, especially when there were no other cars about.

Have a great trip, when u gonna be back in NZ ?

At this stage, mid september....but the range is somewhere between late August and just before Christmas.
MD (Mother Dearest) and I just bought a house in Masterton so I will be in your neck of the woods soon after getting back onto familiar soil...I feel a meeting (and a few beers) is definately in order!

MNG - Best of luck with you holiday in Africa. I am really looking forward to Silly Video #5 "Limbo under a Giraffe" and Silly Video #6 "Crazy Kiwi wrestles Slowstick from jaws of Lion". Has Sarah made sure that your life insurance is up to date .

The forum will miss you while you are away.
