Raptor Titan 50 + Z50-600 + 11s2p PL + Alan Szabo Jr. makes for one great video...

I decided the Z-Power Z50/Raptor setup deserves its own thread now. I have thrown everything I can think of at this remarkably powerful, yet inexpensive motor, including Alan Szabo ( ), and it continues to exceed my expectations. It seems to work great on 10s setups, but really comes alive on 11s LiPos or 12s eMoli configurations. With it's 747-sized fan, it moves so much air through the motor that even after Alan beat the heck out of it, the case of the motor was cool enough that Mark was able to keep his thumb on it without a hint of whining!

Here is a video we shot Sunday, at the MWE, of Alan flying Mark's Raptor with this motor and an 11s2p-4200 Pro Lite setup (6s2p "brick" up front, and a 5s in the back...):

HD Video: R50 Titan | Z50-600 | 11s2p-4200 PL | Alan Szabo Jr.

As you will see, he really bangs it around, trying to load it up, but it keeps on truckin'. I'm sorry for the large file size (130 mb...), but I wanted to keep it in high definition.

I think one of the reasons this motor seems to work better than the numbers "on paper" suggest, is because that huge fan is doing such a great job getting the heat out that the net result is that the resistance is not rising as much as it might without the fan. Lower relative resistance means higher torque and less bogging.

Here's the charts from the FDR:

That's a whole lotta watts. We've been seeing about 2300-2400W so far, but haven't pushed one of these as hard as Alan does. Even on 11s, it was hitting 75A+ peaks, which we know think is too much for a Phx HV 45. I've got a bunch of Phx HV 85s coming in by early next week. I think for everything above 550 blades, we should use the 85s, just to have a margin of error.

Last week, when we tried this on Mark's Raptor, and so how well it was doing, I went ahead and ordered a bunch of Z50 kits. They showed up two days later, which is amazing in and of itself since they had to come from Taiwan. Today, I just enabled these as another Raptor option on my site (http://www.tppacks.com/products.asp?cat=17). The price for the motor and all installation hardware is $135. With the 86T main gear, which I really recommend, it is $145. I've also included an option to add an eCCPM kit, for only $64 more. That means for a buck less than $200 you have have the motor/complete installation kit AND the eCCPM mod.

It was at 100% and the h/s was 2250, which is a tad high, even for us. I was thinking about taming it down some, but then I remembered who was flying so I said "that's fine..."

Yes, the Z50 really rocks. I flew mine today as well, not like alan though..
I´m using a new ventilated 10S2P pack, and a lightend R50 frame, and this heli is much more powerfull then my ZeroG Carbon 50, with the Hyper/Hatori engine. I am using the TT 600 blades as well, which are really great (and cheap) blades, I did not notice much diffrence between them and the Radix 600 blades, which are double up in price.

A really happy e-Rappy Z50 owner

Thanks Gary! The quality is awesome. I hope my new Sony HDV will produce similar videos once I figure out how to use the thing

The rotor blades look real close to that boom, is that why he ended the flight early? in the video he says something but I can't quite make it out. I was hoping to see his famous chaos with that headspeed...

Btw, was this with a P45?

He landed early because the canapy was starting to wiggle loose. Controller was a HV85. I think the blades look close to the boom because of how hard he's banging the sticks. I was cringing the entire flight. This is the most powerfull raptor we've tested to date.

Yes, this works with all stock Raptor framesets, V1, V2 and the Titans, which are the same as the V2s.
