My first composite build: Step by Step

Hey all
First, I'm very new to this composite stuff. I am building a f/g /Kevlar trimaran and would like to start off with something simple. So I decided to build the keel fin for it. I used the TLAR method to find the shape and size.
It's going to be a non vacum bagged, Depron cored, Kevlar/Carbon/Glass layup!
Here's where we start...

Will, It just got cooler!
My next step is to cut the fabrics to shape. To do this I'll use a paper template so I don't ned to trim off too much cured material.
Edit: I was going to use the Aramid (Kevlar), but figured I woul probably screw this up and didn't want to waste it. I've got a foot of it and 1.5 yds of S-Glass

well It's all laied up and is curing right now. I didn't manage to get too many pics duriong it all (epoxy on hands etc), but I wil get some tommorow morning when it has cured. I used West System resin with 205 hardner. It is sandwitched between wax a flat desk, waxed paper, and some heavy books and battery packs on top. I'm screwed if the cured part doesn't release from the paper.... ):

Awesome
It cam out perfect. I let it cure overniight under a light to heat it a bit. The waxed paper stuck to it, so I wet sanded it to remove it. That tooki like a minuite or so. I then trimmed and wet did a final wet sand with 400 grit paper. It's pretty strong, and as long as I don't smakc it full speed on a rock, it should be ok. I'll get some pics later.

You could put a patch of light fiberglass to cover the non glassed area.
It's great to hear that your first composite project started quite well
