I think Corey is the only one in this thread (that I remember) who has flown in the real Tiger Moth. I don't like Corey! LOL!

Save the biplanes is right! About 40 years ago, three friends and I went to the annual Hershey Park antique car meet in Hershey, PA. There is an airport right next door to where they hold the meet. Rides in a Boeing P6E Hawk were $35.00 and my three friends were too scared to take a ride because the plane seemed so "rickety" to them. I derided them which caused them to OFFER TO PAY FOR MY RIDE - which I happily took! A take-away from the ride was a white scarf which you "had" to wear during the 15-minute flight - what a ball!!! We still talk about it once in a while. Good times, good times...

Aeronca--I have been meaning to go up to Pennsylvania to that airfield. Now I have the urge even stronger. Hey, I thought a P-6E was a single seater?

Pat,

I was told at the time (1968 or 1969) that the plane was a Boeing P6E, but I now see you are right, the P6E is a single seater! I was far more into cars at the time and didn't know the difference between a P6E and a Stearman - now I am wondering. Based on what I know today, Stearman PT-17's were far more plentiful and assimilated into civilian life in great numbers. It would have had to be a modified P6E (which I seriously doubt) or a PT-17. Unfortunately, no pictures were taken since we didn't carry around cameras in those days. All these years we've always talked about that day and the P6E I rode in but it must have been something else (PT-17?). I do remember it was mostly a dull silver color and it "creaked" a lot when on the ground - but the short flight was fantastic. If you get up to that airport next to Hershey maybe it's still there!? If so, let me know what it is!

Cam,
Getting one isn't usually the problem... It's the cost. Even without making a dime it'll be over $45!!! The boss wouldn't let me send one out for that kind of deal. (Might be able to do $50 or so though... Let me know if you're interested.) Heck, I'd probably even drive it half way to ya. Wasn't it you who I dropped the WTTM off to that time at Timmy's? Just be forewarned. If you're going to do the indoor flying thing, prepare for another TigerMoth epidemic!

I grew up near Merigold Mississippi where they had a Flying school for
crop dusters. They trained their students with the Blue/Yellow Stearmans... I used to love to watch them flying near our house. It's no wonder Stearmans are one of my favorite planes. The owner of the school had a clipped wing Super Stearman... Geez, I miss watching those planes...

Nope...maybe that was Jonathon? You're in Guelph, right? Do you work in a hobby store? I'd drive to Guelph to get a TM - it's probably the closest I could ever find one. Online they're all $50 plus shipping and Canadian conversion anyways. Let me know what your boss says if possible and I'll see whats poppin.

Corey is good people. His price is on the money for a Canadian dealer and is exactly what we charge for a PICO in our store. We can still get PICO's direct from GWS or from either of 2 large NA distributors for about the same price.

Hahaha! You can have a Porsche. You just need to find the right deal. There's one for sale here in town... It's a 1996 996. It's only $30k. But that was the year that Porsche really screwed up and changed the headlights from the original style 911 race cars. Nobody would buy them, so they're cheap.

I paid a lot more for my 993. But, it's a classic. One of the last of the air cooled engines. I like it better than the 997 that I totaled.

Stay in touch,

Hey Buzz

Those of us that drive 356s have a saying "Porsche built lots of different cars, but after the 356, who cares?"

In Richmond, VA, September 19 was the Annual European Car day of the Central Virginia British Car Club ( http://cvbcc.com/britishcarclub.php ). This year, Porsche was the honored mark

Chris, Robert, and Terry at Lufteknic ( Lufteknic.com ) arranged to have 20 white (to celebrate the German national racing color) Porsches, each representing a different model, parade to the event. My 356B coupe (Fast Freida) was honored to be the leader as the white column of Porsches as we snaked 25 miles east of Richmond on I-64 to the New Kent Winery, where the event was held. When we arrived, were escorted into the event by a Scottish bagpiper. All of the white Porsches were parked together on a golf course.

There were about 20 other Porsches at the event including 6 or so other 356s. The total of Eurpean cars was around 250, including a 1924 Rolls.

The first photo is the lineup at the shop getting ready to leave for the New Kent Winery

The second and third photos are the group of Porsches on the green at New Kent Winery. My car is the 63 356B coupe (second from left).

Thanks

Pat Daily

Thanks for the great pics, Pat

Laugh & point, if you must, but I loved my old 914! Faithfully carried me for many cheerful miles/years. (The other drivers on the road were generally un-aware that there was a race going on, but I knew)!
If I'd had any then, I could've carried a fully assembled Pico TM in the trunk!

Hi friends,

I tested my PTM with original setup and think it was a lot underpowered. I will update the motor, for a on just a littlle stronger, once I want to put a keyfob camera on it to record my flights

I reinforce the lower wing with a carbon fiber rod, as you can see in the picture, but it was not tested yet.

Do you think these reinforcement rod will make the flight worst, will disturb the place the wind goes uder the wing?

Thank you all and best regards from Brasil!
