4 Winged Moth

Here are some nostalgia shots of my first tiger moth after her last crash, before she flew away (sob, sob). Anybody else have a 4 winged moth?

My 3DTiger Moth's upper wing folded up in flight during an inside loop. After I glued it back together, I routed a groove in the upper surface and glued in a piece of cf rod. (that would have been a lot easier to do before the wing was hinged and put on the airplane)--a definite must do mod for any future 3DTM's I may build. Since then, both inboard and outboard struts have broken, so I glassed the inboard ones.

Hi Burntstring, I forgot to tell you thanks for the idea of running my safety string around the leading edge. Probably would be better than having that dangling so far behind the CG. I'll run it your way for the next flight. Thanks.

Cool little camera for 20 bucks. What a shame it doesn't do video unless hooked to USB.

Hey Buzz, I was going to ask if she was wearing that camera as a helmet cam! At the end it looked like you were taking it off of her head. Cool video, but it is going to take the wife & I 30 mins to recover from the motion sickness. j/k

Video question

Tried to upload a videio of my 3DTM in flight, but the file was too big (106 MB)to upload. I know very little about digital video--Is there a way to compress it, or edit out the parts where the plane is too far away to see anyway?

If you are running Windows XP it includes Movie Maker. That will do all you need.

Thanks, Boomer. Perhaps unfortunately I got a kodak digital camera, and it saves video clips with a .mov extension which my version of Windows XP pro can't open. Says it's a non-supported file type. Any other possibilities? A better digital camera?
PS-it looks like you all had a great time at the fly in. If I had gone, then my moth wouldn't have tried to fly down there without me...

Busted! Yeah, TEOR... I had a camera mounted on a hat. It kept slipping down on her head, then I discovered she was watching the plane with her eyes instead of pointing her head at it! LOL!

Download "Quicktime" video viewer. It's an Apple product, but there is also a version for XP Pro. Quicktime will play your .mov files.

All you need is a big rubber band so you can use the camera hands-free, like the redneck hands-free cellphone.

Or maybe velcro it to a hat or helmet for helmet-cam video?

Wayne
Hahahaha! The long video WAS a hat cam. Didn't work out as well as I had hoped. I wonder if I would look strange with the little Edvr strapped on my eye with a rubber band? No, wait.....don't answer that!

Boomer,

I just caught the video on your DR and it looks like a great flyer! Got a Sopwith for the inevitable dog fight?

Buzz,

No wonder you've got the only 25' TM in the universe. If I were a TM flying from your aerodrome I wouldn't go any higher either. That TM of yours has some smarts!

As far as the roses, you've given a whole new meaning to "bush pilot"!

My Wattage Sopwith was getting so ratty I retired it but Rough and Ready has a Sopwith matching kit to the DR-1. So as soon as I finish the SHINDEN J7W1 I'll probably order one.

Flyin' high

Hey Buzz, It is no longer "white". The Tiger was flying so high the video I took only shows a small spec in the sky. CDR motor--so sweet
Haven't had a Tiger to fly for a long time, biggest problem is keeping it down to a reasonable altitude. You best finish you "white Moth" so you can get up there in the thin air. Oh yeah, no rose bushes up there either.
