So, THAT's it!!! Thanks Keith. I guess that's why the littel Aero Aces are so loud.

Ok folks..... NEW GADGET ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

Ever wonder how fast your plane is going in actual MPH? Well, now you can easily find out! Check out this link. It is a radar gun that actually works, for ..... Thirty Dollars! I don't know what the range is, but if you flew toward yourself at WOT you could easily "shoot" your plane with it when it comes near. It registers up to 100mph. Who's got the fastest Tiger Moth?

Check it out here:

Hi Buzz, if you turned the motor and prop around on the Wingo so the prop was over the cockpit it would be a lot quieter. Kinda like Doug's Elfi.

Like Keith said most of the noise is from the prop hitting the air coming off the trailing edge of the wing. But a little of it is from a small prop spinning fast, where a larger prop at less rpm's can create the same thrust and speed but be quieter. Unfortunately not really practical for the Wingo due to prop clearance issues.

The power setup on my Shocky is a direct drive EFlite Park 300 with GWS 8x4.7" prop and 2S 800 lipos from CommonSense. Would work good in a PicoMoth too.

One of the guys at our field tried the hotwheels radar and while it works okay for the TM and other slow planes you have to be right in front of and pretty close to the plane to get a reading, so it gets a little scary with bigger faster planes. He decided it wasn't worth it and took it back.
There is a thread around here about real radar guns for about $75 IIRC, I think it might have been by Boomer. The better guns sound like they work a lot better.

You may not believe this, but Elfi #3, in stock form (Speed 280, geared 4:1, three blade 9x6 prop) was incredibly quiet, possibly due to the brass pinion gear driving the plastic spur gear and loaded up on - You guessed it, Buzz - Vasoline! Present PJS 550 B/L outrunner and 9x4.7 prop actually produces a rushing noise, audible when the plane is doing a low pass. As far as my Moth goes, the IPS gearbox noise is an integral part of its "Mothness", and thus an important part of the "experience" of flying it!! I keep eyeballing that Feigao B/L on the shelf and wondering......hmmm.......

BTW: Great video of the your larger Moth doing its thing. Some day I will graduate to video and hopefully make a mini-movie. For now, it will be time-lapse photography of the Monster Plants!!

Buzz: If you really enjoy the sound of a DD pusher, you should hear my modified T-Hawk! Mega 16/15/5 twisting a Graupner CAM Speed 5.5x4.3 prop, powered by a TP 3S1P 2100 ProLite pack. The doppler effect is fabulous as the plane roars over head. Then my fellow T-Hawk flier John shows up with his Mega 16/15/3 powered T-Hawk, same prop and battery pack. Makes my Hawk sound like a f... in a wirl wind!!

Can't even conceive of a loud, DD, Pico Tiger Moth. Sacrilege!! Blasphemy!!

Wayne/Doug.... in all my years of flying I never knew this until I dumped the slimers and went to electrics. I just love the sound of that Wingo. On a gasser you can't hear it. I'm going to have to agree that the moth should be silent. I raced electric cars for a long time and ALL you could hear out of them was gear lash. I thought sure Wayne had some monster motor in his Shocky. So, when I get the lens motor in the white TM, it should be fairly silent.....

Wayne I just ran across that radar gun while surfing around. It didn't say anything about range... which was my concern. Better to leave it alone than to fly up your nose trying to get a reading!

Speaking of movies, Doug. I've gone insane! I got so wrapped up in the music I'm using, the movie looks like a music video for the first minute or so.
I haven't used one piece of video yet! It's all still shots in the beginning. I got depressed watching what I've done so far. It's a story about a little boy who's father flies off to war (in a Tiger Moth) and never returns. But, now the fun begins.... the last still shot leads into VIDEO!!! Yes.... everyone will get a good ride in the 25ft. Moth! I know you're all holding your respective breaths.

If anyone's got some calm weather, how about sending it over? I've been "hanger flying" for almost a week with the winds here at 14-18 mph with frequent 28 mph gusts. I need something a little calmer - I'm starting to shake!

Keith,

WOO HOO! Have no fear! The shakes are a result of no flying here on the island because of the on-shore winds this past week (nice, but not for flying). Kind of an addiction issue, but it's under control (I think). The winds over in DE will be kind to the WTTM!

Well as I tell all the pilots, dont rush it we want the Moth to be in one piece You should have it before the end of the month. It will be flown over at Boomers for his fly in on the 18,19 or 20th, then will be mailed to you.

Good luck on your flight, I will let you know when its shipped to you.

Man, any pictures of it as of late? I have not seen it since TurboJoe had it flying over in Chandler, AZ. I was to afraid to break it as I was having probs with my Moth at the time. I should have taken the sticks for 5 mins tho now that I look back on it.

Yeah, in the last pictures.... it looks real good. I can't imagine flying it now. My knees would be knocking. Sice I was 6th to fly it, it only had a few signatures on it. Now it's a flying piece of history! I sure hope Boomer gets lots of pictures of it at his fly in.

Rain.... Rain.... We need it here anyway!!! At least on the last storm (early Saturday morning) we were not so flooded like a couple of weeks ago. The water was above the picnic tables!
