For just a split second it looked like they had mounted that jet engine on that TM! made me wonder if that one wouldn't go above 25 feet either!

Boomer, Mike asked me to close the old thread because it was causing strain on the server. He asked me because I started the last thread(thus, I can close it). You almost sound like you're having a go at me and/or Australia with that "so why would he tell someone in Australia to start a new one?" remark :P

What???? This is a gearing chart for the IPS. The chart says it needs a 12x7 prop for "F" gearing on the IPS. I don't think an IPS is going to fly a Slow Stick.

Well....its all about thrust to weight ratio's and lift co-efficients , my SS AUW is about 12oz the "a" drive will fly a 10 oz TM (have one to prove it too)

if enough thrust is produced by the larger prop the SS will fly....slowly perhaps...but fly all the same.

look at some of the larger free flight models with those very large very slow turning props......same theory applies

might just be a good experiment for me to try at SEFF next week

How SLooooW can you go!!

Did you ever try the 10x4.7? So slow it won't fight any wind.

If you fly slower than the wind speed, is it like flying on a converyor belt?

Peter,
Not at all I have some old friends in Australia and love Australia and the people! I just couldn't make the connection on why he asked you to close it. It now makes sense. Thanks for clearing it up. What confused me even more is the "You no longer have to start new threads" instruction that was issued a while ago and the "It's causing a strain on the server" now! Shows how confused RC Groups has become!
regards,

Are you guys seriously talking about flying a SS with an IPS? A 12.7 prop is HUGE. I can see no reason to have "F" gearing and 12.7 prop. What could that possibly be for? It seems like no matter what you put it on, it would fry the motor. Yeah, I've built rubber powered big free flight planes and that was about the size of the prop. But it wasn't trying to turn 9000rpm. It just pulled the plane along at it's own pace. With it on a Tiger Moth..... it seems like the plane would spin and the prop would be so big it wouldn't turn. What could "F" gearing be for?

NO! Wayne you just had to start that again!! It's like on a conveyer belt only going backwards. The less throttle you give the plane, the faster it will go. Backwards. I love it when there is just enough breeze to hover into it at about half throttle. I actually have flown backwards! Kind of a strange sight.

Wait a minute, there Chuck. You are flying a 10 oz moth on "A" ratio with a stock motor?

Now I really feel bad because my moth weighs the same and, well.......

Does yours fly higher than 25ft?

Checking in

Pitty the thread had to be closed, makes searching a little harder again.

Finally the weather over here seems to allow to fly the Moth again soon. Time to blow away about 2 oz. of dust from her.

Grtz, Dirk
