Electric AT-6 Racing!

Hey guys, I haven't seen a thread on this yet, so I'll start one here. There is a group of guys in California who are racing the little House of Balsa AT-6 models. You can get all the details on the website here: http://www.electrict6racing.com/

Anyway, today was the second race in the series. There were 8 planes (7 pilots) and we flew at the Mission Bay field of the Silent Electric Flyers of San Diego. It was an awesome time! (Laughs were had by all!!)

There are two basic categories; a sportsman (stock) class and an "unlimited" class. The stock class is great for most people... fast enough and yet not too fast. The unlimited planes were radared at 95+ MPH, which is just silly fast... but the racing was so close that it was really great fun to watch. And the planes all looked really great!

Forgive my poor photography, but I'll attach some pics from today's races.

Come out and join us for more racing at the SEFSD MWE/Spring Fling on Cinco De Mayo weekend!! http://sefsd.org/mwe.htm

-David

Well, the stock setup is a long-can brushed 400 on 8 1100-1400 NiMH cells (480 or something)... it's in the rules on the electrict6 website above.

For the unlimited, Steve used a 4.4:1 geared Neu 1105 and Pedro used an old Aveox 1010-2Y direct drive. The battery is a 2500mAh (or less) 3s1p Lipo.

Again, the rules are on the website.

Small correction to the 666 teams power system--to be picky it was a 1105/2Y with a 3.3 gear box with a 7/8APC prop.

I would love to come and do this. I built a HOB T-6 and love it. I put retracts in it and everything. I'm thinking about coming down over break.

Any collisions with eachother, poles, ground, etc.? How many come out of this alive?

Does anyone have any video??

No collisions, but very close calls.
Hope you can make it.

I just spoke to my wife and it's in the works. We might actually go down. Are there any entry fees, club fees, or are club fees waved due to it being a competition etc.? What would it cost alltogether?

The cost to fly is $10 a day or $25 for the three days.
